Philodendron 'Golden Crocodile' is a tropical aroid native to the rainforests of South America, where it grows in warm, humid understory conditions. This rare collector plant belongs to the Araceae family.
Deeply serrated, elongated leaves with a bold crocodile texture distinguish it from nearly any other philodendron. New growth emerges in golden yellow before maturing to deep green, creating a two-toned display throughout the plant's growth cycle. Its upright form makes it a sculptural addition that adapts to both bohemian and modern interior spaces.
Philodendron Crocodile produces foliage rather than flowers, and reliable flowering details for this cultivar remain undocumented in indoor cultivation.
Philodendron Crocodile needs space to display its dramatic leaves and performs well near a kitchen where ambient moisture supports its high humidity needs. During summer, move it outside to a sheltered spot for a seasonal boost, though it may appear stressed briefly after relocation. The sap causes skin and paw irritation, so keep it on a high shelf or display stand well out of reach of pets and small children.
Philodendron 'Golden Crocodile' grows well in bright indirect light and benefits from regular rotation for even, balanced growth.
Water it every 7 to 10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, and reduce frequency in winter.
Philodendron Crocodile grows best in a well-draining aroid mix of perlite, bark, and peat for healthy root development.
It prefers temperatures between 65 and 85°F and should never be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F.
Philodendron Crocodile is a moderately fast grower and responds well to monthly feeding with balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.
It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, where temperatures rarely drop below 30-35°F, and it is not frost tolerant. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and frost-free pockets of coastal Southern California. Warmer areas of Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, and Mississippi can support outdoor growth with winter protection, while gardeners in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, central California, Nevada, and the Oregon coast typically bring it indoors once temperatures begin to fall.
Q: How often should I water Philodendron 'Golden Crocodile'?
A: Water every 7 to 10 days in spring and summer. In winter, reduce watering to once every 3 to 4 weeks.
Q: Is this plant toxic to pets?
A: Philodendron 'Golden Crocodile' should be kept well out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap causes paw and skin irritation. Place it on a high shelf away from nibbling.
Q: What light conditions does Philodendron Crocodile need?
A: Bright indirect light works best. Avoid direct south-facing sun, which can scorch the leaves. It can adapt to office LED conditions.
Q: How fast does it grow?
A: Philodendron Crocodile grows at a moderate pace. Consistent warmth, high humidity, and monthly feeding during the growing season encourage fastest growth.
Q: Is Philodendron Crocodile a rare plant?
A: It is a genuine collector find and rarely appears in general garden centers. The combination of deeply serrated foliage and upright form makes it especially coveted by tropical houseplant collectors.
Q: Can I move it outdoors in summer?
A: Philodendron Crocodile can spend summer outdoors in a warm, sheltered spot with filtered light and good humidity. Bring it inside well before temperatures drop, and keep it away from air conditioning and heating vents.

Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered
light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do
NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour
off any excess water after a few minutes.
The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot
area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended
periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
