  •   Philodendron Cordatum Heartleaf (Philodendron hederaceum), also called heartleaf philodendron, is a tropical aroid from the Araceae family native to the rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it climbs and scrambles through the forest understory in warm, humid conditions beneath the canopy.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped with a glossy, waxy texture and symmetrical form that tapers to a pointed tip. Deep green mature foliage contrasts with softer, lighter green new growth, creating a two-tone effect on long, slender trailing vines. It cascades from hanging baskets and shelves as a classic trailing houseplant for vertical spaces.

Heartleaf Philodendron is grown primarily for its foliage rather than flowers, and indoor blooms are rare outside of very mature specimens in ideal conditions. It effectively purifies indoor air by filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins while naturally adding humidity to your space.

Place it in a terrarium, near a kitchen window where moisture levels stay higher, or on a hanging hook in any bright room. Keep it on a high shelf or hanging planter away from cats, dogs, and small children, as contact with the sap can cause skin and paw irritation.

  •   Philodendron Cordatum Heartleaf grows well in bright indirect light and handles office LED lighting well, but scorches in direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 7-10 days during the growing season, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings and reducing frequency in winter.

Heartleaf Philodendron does best in a well-draining aroid mix of peat or coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark for airflow.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should never be exposed to frost or prolonged temperatures below 50°F.

Heartleaf Philodendron is a fast-growing trailing vine that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, where temperatures rarely fall below 30-35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, coastal and southern California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the southernmost Rio Grande Valley of Texas, and parts of Arizona near the Sonoran Desert. Everywhere else across the continental United States, including Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest coast of Oregon and Washington, it should be kept as an indoor trailing plant and brought outside only during warm summer months.
  • Q: How often should I water Philodendron Cordatum Heartleaf?
A: Water every 7-10 days during the growing season. Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if the top inch feels dry, it is ready for water. Reduce frequency in winter when growth slows.

Q: Can the leaves turn yellow even with proper care?
A: Philodendron Cordatum Heartleaf develops yellow leaves most often from overwatering, inconsistent moisture, or cold drafts from air conditioning or heating vents. Moving it away from direct AC or heater airflow and adjusting your watering routine usually resolves the issue quickly.

Q: Does Heartleaf Philodendron need high humidity?
A: Yes, it prefers higher humidity levels and does especially well near kitchen steam, inside a terrarium, or on a pebble tray. Keep it away from dry heated air and cold AC vents, which cause browning leaf tips.

Q: How do you propagate new plants?
A: Heartleaf Philodendron propagates easily from stem cuttings taken just below a node and placed in water or moist potting mix. Roots appear within two to four weeks in a warm, humid spot.

Q: Is Heartleaf Philodendron safe for pets and children?
A: Cats and dogs should not nibble on it, as contact with the sap can cause skin and paw irritation. Keep it on a high shelf or in a hanging planter away from both pets and small children.

Q: Can you leave this plant unwatered during travel?
A: Heartleaf Philodendron can handle up to ten days without water as long as you water it thoroughly before leaving and place it away from harsh sun or drafts.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
