  •   Crassula Dependens, also called Slab Stonecrop, is a rare trailing succulent from the Crassulaceae family native to the rocky outcrops and dry slopes of South Africa. It grows naturally in well-drained, gritty soils where rainfall is seasonal and sunlight abundant. It brings genuine botanical character to any indoor or outdoor garden.

Dense, mat-forming clusters of small, fleshy leaves cascade as it matures, creating a layered texture along slender trailing stems. The foliage is compact and tightly arranged, whether displayed in a hanging basket or draped over the edge of a pot. Its clumping, ground-cover growth style works equally well on high shelves or suspended from hooks.

It produces small flowers characteristic of the Crassula genus, adding seasonal interest to its trailing form. This succulent releases oxygen after dark, making it a suitable bedroom companion. Note that it does produce pollen, so those with plant allergies may want to position it away from sleeping areas.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to soak up warmth in a bright, sheltered spot with rain cover. Keep it on a high shelf well out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap may cause mild skin or paw irritation. It grows well on minimal intervention once established in the right light and soil.

  •   Crassula dependens - Slab Stonecrop grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun and may scorch in intense south-facing windows.

Water it every 10-14 days during summer and once a month in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Crassula Dependens does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix of succulent or cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50-80°F and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop near freezing.

Crassula Dependens is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a light balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips to around 25-30°F with protection. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. Coastal regions of Oregon and Washington within zone 9, along with parts of New Mexico and the warmer areas of North Carolina and Arkansas, can also support it through mild winters with minimal shelter.
  • Q: How often should I water Crassula dependens - Slab Stonecrop?
A: During the growing season, water every 10-14 days and allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce to once a month or less depending on indoor heating and light levels.

Q: What light conditions work best indoors?
A: Crassula dependens - Slab Stonecrop prefers a bright window with indirect light. A north or east-facing window works well; intense south or west-facing sun can burn the leaves.

Q: Is Crassula Dependens safe for pets?
A: Keep it on a high shelf away from cats and dogs. The sap may cause mild irritation on their paws or skin.

Q: What's the best way to display this plant?
A: Crassula Dependens grows as a trailing mat, so it looks best suspended in a macramé hanger or positioned at eye level on a shelf where you can see the stems spread sideways.

Q: Can Slab Stonecrop survive without watering during travel?
A: It can go up to ten days without water. Plan watering before departure or ask someone to water on day 8-10 for trips longer than two weeks.

Q: How do I propagate Slab Stonecrop?
A: Stem fragments root readily after callusing for one to two days in a dry location. Place them on gritty, well-draining soil and mist lightly every few days until roots emerge.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
