The leaves are large, broadly oval, and held upright on long petioles. Each leaf surface is painted with a pattern of dark green outer zones, pale green feathered banding toward the center, and a soft pink-to-cream midrib. The undersides are a deep burgundy-red. Leaves can reach 8 to 12 inches across on a mature plant.
'Medallion' is grown primarily for its foliage rather than its blooms, which are small, inconspicuous, and rarely appear in indoor conditions. It does fold its leaves upward in the evening and open them again in the morning, a movement common to plants in the Marantaceae family.
