    •   Ruschia pulvinaris, also called Shrubby Ice Plant, is a low-growing succulent known for its dense, cushion-like growth habit. This unique perennial sub-shrub is native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, where it thrives in arid and semi-arid regions. It belongs to the Aizoaceae family, often called the fig-marigold family.

This succulent features woody, branching stems covered with awl-shaped, gray-green leaves. The fleshy leaves have a triangular cross-section and are patterned with tiny spots. It forms compact mats or mounds, reaching about 3 to 4 inches in height and spreading up to 12 inches wide.

Ruschia pulvinaris is a prolific bloomer, producing many bright magenta or fuchsia-pink flowers. These vibrant blooms emerge from mid-spring through summer and can reach a diameter of 1 inch. The flowers attract bees and beneficial insects. This plant is pet-friendly.

Ruschia pulvinaris can be left up to ten days without water. It handles drafty spots and tolerates dry heated air indoors. Move it outdoors for the summer months, where it handles balcony wind and rain without issue. This plant produces pollen, which can be an allergen for some.

    •   Ruschia pulvinaris thrives in direct sun, requiring at least 5-6 hours of sunlight daily.

It wilts slightly when dry, indicating a need for water. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Ruschia pulvinaris grows well in well-draining, sandy or rocky soil. Mix coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil.

It tolerates dry heated air and handles drafty spots. It can stay outdoors in autumn.

Ruschia pulvinaris is a low-growing, creeping succulent. Apply a dilute, low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 6a to 10b, tolerating temperatures from -10°F to 40°F. It grows outdoors in states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, and Hawaii.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
