  •   Peperomia 'San Marino' (Peperomia caperata 'San Marino') is a compact tropical houseplant in the Piperaceae family, native to the rainforest floors of Brazil. It grows as a low, mounding rosette and has become a go-to desk plant and terrarium plant for indoor growers.

The leaves are small, heart-shaped, and heavily corrugated, with deep ridges that run across the surface. Upper leaf color is silver-green, and the undersides show a slightly reddish tone. The dense, puckered texture of each leaf is one of the most consistent identifying features across the variety.

Flower spikes appear periodically, growing tall and slender above the foliage in creamy white to pale green. They are unscented and short-lived. San Marino Peperomia purifies indoor air and is listed as a pet-friendly houseplant, safe for cats and dogs.

It fits neatly into a terrarium or sits well on a desk under office LED lighting. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it tolerates dry heated indoor air. Keep it away from south-facing windows, where the leaves can scorch, and position it away from air conditioning or heating vents. San Marino Peperomia is sensitive to being moved, so once placed in a good spot, it does best left there. Place it where rain cannot reach it if kept near a window or outdoors temporarily, as the leaves and soil do not handle direct rainfall well.

  •   Peperomia 'San Marino' grows well in bright indirect light and tolerates medium light under office LEDs.

It needs watering every 10-14 days, allowing the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings.

San Marino Peperomia does best in a well-draining mix of perlite and peat or a quality cactus blend.

It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and struggles near vents blowing cold AC or hot heater air.

San Marino Peperomia is a slow grower, staying compact; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, tolerating minimum temperatures around 30-35°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, Arizona, and Louisiana. It also does well outdoors in Georgia, South Carolina, and coastal areas of Oregon and Washington during warmer months.
  • Q: Is Peperomia 'San Marino' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: Why are the leaves on my peperomia turning yellow?
A: Peperomia 'San Marino' most often yellows from overwatering. Check that the soil is nearly dry before watering again, and make sure the pot drains freely.

Q: How do I know when San Marino Peperomia needs water?
A: It wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch or two of soil with your finger before watering.

Q: Can I grow this plant in a terrarium?
A: San Marino Peperomia fits well in open terrariums, where its compact rosette stays tidy without taking over the space.

Q: How do I propagate San Marino Peperomia?
A: Leaf cuttings work well. Remove a healthy leaf with its stem, let the cut end dry for a few hours, then press it into moist soil mix.

Q: What happens if this plant gets too much direct sun?
A: South-facing windows can scorch the leaves of San Marino Peperomia, leaving pale or brown patches on the surface. Bright indirect light from an east or north-facing window works better.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
