It forms low, trailing clusters of small, plump leaves in blue-green with soft whitish tips. The stems spread outward in every direction as it matures, creating a dense, clumping mat that cascades over pot edges and hanging basket rims. The foliage takes on warmer tones in full sun exposure.
Small flowers appear in spring to early summer, typically in pale pink or white. This drought-tolerant succulent bounces back quickly after dry spells and tolerates heated indoor air well, though it performs best when kept away from direct AC or heater vents.
Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot. It works well in hanging baskets, window boxes, rock gardens, and as a patio container plant. The plant is fully pet-friendly, safe for cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Rotate it occasionally for even growth, and protect it from heavy rain when grown outdoors.
Sedum Oaxacanum grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, but avoid intense south-facing windows without some afternoon shade.
Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season and cut back to once monthly in winter, always letting soil dry completely between waterings.
Sedum Oaxacanum does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite for maximum drainage.
It prefers temperatures between 60 and 80°F and has limited frost tolerance, beginning to struggle below 25°F.
It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, where temperatures rarely dip below 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. It can also be grown outdoors seasonally along the Oregon coast and in sheltered spots in New Mexico and Arkansas, then brought inside before the first frost arrives.
