The Pilea 'Moon Valley' (Pilea involucrata 'Moon Valley') is a cultivar of Pilea involucrata, commonly known as the Friendship Plant or Panamiga. It belongs to the nettle family (Urticaceae).
The parent species, Pilea involucrata, is native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in areas like Peru and Colombia, where it grows in humid, shaded forest floors.
The leaves are the main feature. They are bright green, oval-shaped, and deeply textured or quilted with sunken veins and raised areas, giving them an almost three-dimensional, crinkled appearance reminiscent of craters on the moon. The deeply-set veins are often a contrasting darker bronze, deep maroon, or purplish-brown, which intensifies the quilted effect and adds a striking element to the plant.
