  •   Sempervivum 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' is a frost-hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe and Asia where it evolved in rocky alpine terrain. It brings the same rugged resilience to windowsills, patios, and rock gardens, requiring little intervention once established.

Fuzzy Wuzzy forms tight, symmetrical rosettes covered in soft, hair-like cilia along the leaf edges that give it the tactile, fuzzy texture its name promises. The fleshy, pointed leaves are typically green with rosy-pink tips that deepen in bright light, and it spreads steadily by producing small offsets, or "chicks," around the mother rosette to create dense clusters over time.

Each rosette flowers once in summer, sending up tall stalks topped with star-shaped pink to reddish blooms before the mother plant fades and makes room for surrounding offsets to continue the display. It produces new offsets each season, ensuring continuous flowering across the cluster.

Place it in outdoor rock gardens, alpine troughs, container arrangements, and green roof plantings where drought-tolerant succulents excel. It handles balcony wind well and can move outside for summer with some cover from heavy rain to prevent waterlogged soil. Detach small offset chicks from the base of the mother rosette and press them into fresh, gritty soil where they root within a few weeks. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is non-toxic around cats and dogs.

  •   Sempervivum 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' grows well in partial to full sun, receiving at least four to six hours of direct sunlight daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every 10-14 days.

Fuzzy Wuzzy does best in fast-draining, gritty soil such as a cactus mix blended with perlite or coarse sand.

It tolerates a wide range from around 65-75°F in summer down to frost-hardy lows near -30°F.

Fuzzy Wuzzy is a slow to moderate grower that needs little to no fertilizer, perhaps one light feeding in spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3-8, surviving frost down to approximately -40°F in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors year-round across Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Missouri. It also succeeds in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and warmer Zone 8 areas including Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and the Pacific Northwest coast with good drainage and afternoon shade in peak summer heat.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' safe to grow around cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: What happens if the soil stays too wet?
A: Sempervivum 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' is far more tolerant of drought than overwatering, and soggy soil causes root rot and rosette collapse.

Q: How does Fuzzy Wuzzy spread in a container?
A: It produces small offset chicks around the mother rosette that gradually fill in the space to create a dense, clustered display.

Q: Can it survive outdoors in extreme cold?
A: Fuzzy Wuzzy survives temperatures down to -40°F in well-drained soil and stays outdoors year-round across most of the continental United States.

Q: Can Fuzzy Wuzzy be moved outside for the summer?
A: It handles balcony wind and outdoor conditions well, though some protection from prolonged heavy rain prevents waterlogging.

Q: What window direction works best for strong color development?
A: Fuzzy Wuzzy develops its rosy-pink leaf tips most intensely in bright, direct light, so a south or west-facing window promotes the best color shift.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
