The leaves lie flat and tightly against the stem or support surface, creating a neat appearance unlike typical trailing or vining houseplants. The foliage is small and green, with a shingled arrangement. As the plant matures, it forms a vertical column of leaves rather than spreading outward or cascading downward.
In its native tropical environment, it produces small aroid flowers consisting of a spathe and spadix, but flowering is extremely rare indoors and not showy when it occurs. It grows well in high humidity and near kitchen moisture, where the consistent dampness mimics its rainforest origins.
Mount it on a moss pole, plant board, or cork backing to showcase its natural shingling growth, and it will climb upward while maintaining its flat-against-surface form. It grows well under office LEDs and does not scorch in south-facing windows like many tropical aroids. Keep it on a high shelf or in a room away from small children and pets, as the sap causes skin and paw irritation.
Rhaphidophora 'Hayi' grows well in bright, indirect light and avoids direct sun, which can damage the leaves.
Water it when the top layer of soil begins to dry, keeping the soil lightly moist but never soggy.
'Hayi' does best in a well-draining, airy potting mix with bark, perlite, or coco coir for healthy root development.
It prefers temperatures between 65 and 85°F and should not be exposed to cold below 60°F.
It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12 and grows outdoors year-round only in southern Florida, Hawaii, and coastal southern California, where temperatures remain consistently warm.

When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
