  •   Scindapsus Pictus, also called Satin Pothos, is a tropical vining houseplant native to Southeast Asia. It belongs to the Araceae family and grows naturally through humid forest understories, climbing and trailing through its native canopy. It has earned a devoted following among beginner and collector plant parents for its forgiving nature and striking foliage.

Heart-shaped leaves dusted with silvery-grey satin patches are the standout feature of this vining houseplant. Each leaf is thick and slightly velvety to the touch, with the silver variegation shimmering in indirect light as it matures and deepens in color. It grows both upright when given a support pole and beautifully trailing when cascaded from a hanging basket or high shelf, adapting to either growing style with ease.

Scindapsus Pictus rarely flowers indoors, so the ever-changing, silver-splashed foliage is the true showstopper. It naturally humidifies the air around it, making it an especially welcome presence in living rooms, bedrooms, and reading nooks where ambient moisture tends to be low.

It grows well near kitchen moisture and adapts reliably under standard office fluorescent lighting, adapting to lower-light conditions that would challenge many other houseplants. Display it in a hanging planter with a sturdy hook or trailing from a high shelf. You can leave it up to ten days without water. The sap can cause skin irritation and paw irritation in cats and dogs, so place it on a high shelf or in a hanging planter, well out of reach of both pets and small children.

  •   Satin Pothos Scindapsus Pictus thrives in bright indirect light and adapts well to lower-light conditions, including standard office fluorescents, though it scorches in direct south-facing windows.

Water it every 7-10 days in spring and summer, and every 14 days in winter, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

Scindapsus Pictus does best in a well-draining mix of standard potting soil combined with perlite or orchid bark to prevent soggy roots.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should be kept away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and heater airflow.

Scindapsus Pictus is a moderate grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, tolerating no frost and requiring protection once temperatures approach 50°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, southern Arizona, and parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. It also grows outdoors during summer months in coastal Georgia, coastal South Carolina, Alabama, southern Nevada, and the warmer pockets of Oregon and Washington, though it must be brought inside well before the first seasonal freeze.
  • Q: How often should I water Satin Pothos Scindapsus Pictus?
A: Water every 7-10 days during spring and summer, and every 14 days in winter. Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings to avoid overwatering.

Q: Can this plant survive on a desk under fluorescent lights?
A: Satin Pothos Scindapsus Pictus adapts well to standard office fluorescents and grows reliably in lower-light conditions, making it ideal for workspace environments.

Q: Is Scindapsus Pictus safe around pets and children?
A: The sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so place it on a high shelf or in a hanging planter away from cats, dogs, and small children.

Q: How fast does it grow and how large does it get?
A: Scindapsus Pictus is a moderate grower that typically adds several inches of trailing vine per month in good conditions, with vines reaching 3-4 feet or more indoors.

Q: How do I propagate Satin Pothos?
A: Snip a stem just below a node and root it in water or moist perlite in bright indirect light. Roots typically develop within 3-5 weeks during the growing season.

Q: Does Satin Pothos need high humidity?
A: It appreciates higher humidity and does particularly well in kitchens or bathrooms. It tolerates average indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting or a nearby pebble tray.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
