The leaves are composed of five to nine leaflets arranged in a palm-like formation, each bright forest green and glossy. The trunk is naturally thick and woody, and in cultivation is often braided or twisted for visual appeal. Mature specimens can reach 6 feet or taller indoors, though they respond well to pruning to maintain a compact, bushy shape.
Pachira aquatica produces small white or pale yellow flowers that bloom sporadically indoors, though flowering is uncommon in typical home conditions. The plant naturally humidifies the air around it and purifies indoor air by filtering formaldehyde and other toxins. It releases oxygen at night.
Move it outside for the summer in warm climates, providing protection from direct rain. Rotate the plant every few weeks for even growth on all sides. You can leave it up to ten days without water. This plant is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs. The braided trunk makes it suited for floor placement, tables, or as a statement piece in bright corners. Pachira aquatica is a slow to moderate grower.

You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
