  •   Hoya Publicalyx is a tropical vining wax plant native to the Philippines, where it climbs through humid forest environments. As a member of the Apocynaceae family, this indoor plant has earned a devoted following for its foliage and trailing growth habit.

The plant is recognizable by its deep green, lance-shaped leaves splashed with silver flecks. The vines trail and can reach impressive lengths, making it a standout trailing vine for hanging baskets and elevated shelves. The waxy, semi-succulent leaves have a glossy finish that catches light from every angle.

It blooms in rounded clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in burgundy-red tones with a contrasting pink or white center crown. The blooms carry a sweet fragrance, especially in the evenings, and appear most reliably when the plant experiences a slight drop in nighttime temperatures. Mature plants bloom repeatedly throughout the year.

It actively purifies indoor air and releases oxygen at night. It grows well near kitchen moisture or in any humid corner of your home. Hoya Publicalyx is sensitive to being moved around frequently, so find it a good spot and let it settle. During summer, move it outside to a sheltered spot, covering it from rain to prevent root issues. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Hoya Publicalyx grows well in bright indirect light and tolerates medium light but scorches easily in direct south-facing sun.

Water it thoroughly every 10 to 14 days, allowing the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings.

Hoya Publicalyx does best in a chunky, fast-draining mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark for healthy roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and must be kept away from frost and cold drafts.

Hoya Publicalyx is a moderately fast grower and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12 and cannot tolerate frost. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, South Florida, and Southern California, where temperatures rarely dip below 30 to 35°F. It can also thrive in warmer pockets of Arizona, Louisiana, coastal Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and southern Nevada during mild seasons, though most growers in these regions bring it indoors when nighttime temperatures drop.
  • Q: Is Hoya Publicalyx pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, though the sap can occasionally cause mild skin or paw irritation on contact.

Q: What window direction works best for this plant?
A: Hoya Publicalyx does well near an east or west-facing window with bright indirect light. Avoid south-facing windows with intense direct sun, as the leaves will scorch.

Q: How do I know when Hoya Publicalyx needs water?
A: The leaves will show slightly soft or mildly wilting appearance when thirsty. Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if any moisture remains, wait a few more days.

Q: Can it grow under office LED lights?
A: Hoya Publicalyx grows steadily under quality LED grow lights or bright office fluorescents, though growth may be slower than in natural light.

Q: What temperature drop triggers blooms on Hoya Publicalyx?
A: A 10°F difference between nighttime and daytime temperatures prompts the most reliable flowering. Consistent bright indirect light and stable placement once buds begin forming support steady flower production.

Q: How long can it survive without water on a trip?
A: Hoya Publicalyx can last up to 10 days without watering if watered thoroughly before you leave. Keep it away from AC or heater vents while you are gone to reduce moisture loss.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
