Dracaena 'Song of India' (Dracaena reflexa 'Variegata') is a woody tropical houseplant native to Madagascar, Mauritius, and other islands of the Indian Ocean. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows naturally in humid, forested environments with filtered light.

The leaves are long, narrow, and arching, with bold yellow-green edges framing a deep green center. They grow in dense spiraling whorls along upright, branching stems, and each leaf tapers to a soft point. The variegated tropical foliage is the most consistent identifier across all growth stages.

Song of India occasionally produces small, fragrant white flowers on mature plants grown indoors, though blooming is infrequent and not guaranteed in typical home conditions. It earns its place year-round through its foliage rather than its flowers. It also filters indoor air, removing formaldehyde and other toxins from the environment.

Rotate Song of India every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. It scorches in south-facing windows, so east or west placement works best.
