Dracaena deremensis Janet Craig Compacta is a refined, compact cultivar of the popular Dracaena family with lush, deep green foliage and manageable size. Originating from tropical Africa, this plant has been a staple in interior landscaping since the mid-20th century, admired for its resilience and minimal care requirements, making it one of the best easy houseplants for beginners.

This variety stands out with its glossy, lance-shaped leaves that grow densely around a central stem, creating a rosette-like appearance. Unlike its taller counterpart, the standard 'Janet Craig', the 'Compacta' maintains a shorter stature, making it ideal for desks, shelves, and small spaces.

Janet Craig Compacta is a slow-growing plant, typically reaching a height of 2 to 3 feet and a width of 1 to 2 feet over several years. Its upright growth habit and compact form make it an excellent choice for areas with limited space, providing a vertical accent without overwhelming the surroundings.

According to NASA's Clean Air Study, Dracaena varieties, including 'Janet Craig Compacta', effectively remove common indoor pollutants like formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene, contributing to improved indoor air quality. Thrives as a low light houseplant in bright, indirect light conditions but is tolerant of lower light levels. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot; ensure the pot has proper drainage.

Prefers a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. Fertilize monthly during the growing season with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer; reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

Ideal temperatures range from 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). Prefers moderate humidity; occasional misting can help, especially in dry environments.

Dracaena deremensis is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

* Grower pot option is plastic pot, the color of the plastic pot will be random (brown, black, white or green)

* We use 3.5-inch wide clay pots for our 4-inch succulent plant + clay pot option, and 3-inch modern pots for the 4-inch succulent plant + modern pot option.

Your plant will be carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. Most of the succulents will be shipped bare-root to ensure their safety. If you want to receive the plastic pot & soil, please leave a note in your order. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box. Plant orders are shipped within 3-5 days depending on the availability of the plant. We ship our plants Monday through Friday, all twelve months of the year! If you need your order urgently, please message us so we can upgrade your shipping (additional cost applied). We do not ship outside of the continental United States.

Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
