  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Bermuda' is a rare, cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to mountainous regions of southeastern Europe where it grows among rocky, exposed terrain. It grows in harsh conditions that challenge most plants, with serious visual impact.

'Bermuda' forms tight, geometric rosettes that shift color with the seasons and light levels, with deep purples and greens and fleshy leaves edged in contrasting tones. The clustering growth style means a single plant gradually expands into a spreading colony of interconnected rosettes, creating a layered appearance across containers or garden beds.

It produces star-shaped flowers on upright stems in summer, a once-in-a-lifetime bloom from each individual rosette. After flowering, the mother rosette completes its lifecycle, but the surrounding offsets continue to grow and fill in the planting without interruption.

'Bermuda' works well in rock gardens, alpine troughs, outdoor containers, and balcony planters, handling wind and rain without trouble. It is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs. It can be left up to ten days without water. Propagation is straightforward by dividing and replanting the offsets that form around the base of mature rosettes.

  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Bermuda' grows well in partial sun to full sun, receiving at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently every ten to fourteen days, always allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

'Bermuda' grows best in gritty, fast-draining soil such as cactus mix blended with perlite or coarse sand at roughly a 1:1 ratio.

It handles temperatures from around -30°F in winter dormancy to warm summer highs without stress.

'Bermuda' is a slow to moderate grower that rarely needs fertilizer, though a light, diluted feed in spring encourages healthy new offsets.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, surviving frost down to approximately -40°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. It also performs well through cooler months in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oregon, Washington, northern California, Nevada, New Mexico, and parts of Texas.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum heuffelii 'Bermuda' pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What causes yellow or discolored leaves on this plant?
A: Sempervivum heuffelii 'Bermuda' develops yellow leaves from overwatering or waterlogged soil, so ensure the pot drains freely and the soil dries completely between waterings. Insufficient light can also cause color shifts.

Q: How do I propagate 'Bermuda'?
A: Gently detach a well-rooted offset or chick from the base of the mother rosette and plant it directly into gritty, well-draining soil.

Q: Can this plant stay outdoors on a balcony year-round?
A: 'Bermuda' handles balcony wind and rain well and stays outside through autumn and winter in most climates. If your area gets prolonged heavy rainfall, a light rain cover on containers helps prevent root rot.

    Q: Does 'Bermuda' need fertilizer?
A: It rarely needs feeding, but a light, diluted application in spring encourages healthy offset development.

Q: What window direction works best for indoor growing?
A: 'Bermuda' should be placed in a south-facing or west-facing window. If indoor light is insufficient and leaves begin to pale or stretch, move it outdoors.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
