The Maranta Black Prayer Plant (Maranta leuconeura 'Massangeana') is a striking evergreen perennial. Like all Prayer Plants, the 'Black' variety is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it thrives on the jungle floor beneath the canopy, receiving bright, filtered light and high humidity
The Maranta earns its common name, Prayer Plant, from its fascinating movement known as nyctinasty. During the day, the velvety leaves lay relatively flat to maximize light absorption. As the sun sets, the leaves fold upward, resembling hands clasped in prayer.

Bright, indirect light is crucial for maintaining its vibrant color. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause the colors to fade or bleach. It can tolerate lower light, but growth may slow, and colors may dull.
Keep Soil Consistently Moist. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry to the touch. It is highly sensitive to drought and will not tolerate drying out completely.
Well-Draining, Peat-Based Mix. Prefers rich, slightly acidic soil that retains moisture without becoming soggy.
It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 27°C).
