  •   Kalanchoe 'Tarantula' is a succulent from the Kalanchoe genus, native to the arid and semi-arid regions of Madagascar and tropical Africa. It grows naturally into any low-maintenance indoor collection.

Tarantula earns its spider-inspired name from textured, deeply serrated leaves that radiate outward in a bold form. The foliage grows in a dense, upright cluster with a sculptural quality that suits both bohemian and contemporary interiors. Fleshy, waxy leaves store water efficiently, giving it its characteristic resilience and distinctive structure.

It produces blooms in warm tones that emerge most reliably after a period of cooler nights, as a nighttime temperature drop signals the plant to set buds. Keeping it away from air conditioning and heater vents helps protect both flowers and foliage from drying airflow during the bloom cycle.

Move it outside for summer in a bright, sheltered spot, but provide cover from heavy rain to prevent waterlogged roots. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Cats, dogs, and small children should not nibble or eat the leaves, so keep it on a high shelf or elevated display.

  •   Kalanchoe 'Tarantula' grows well in bright indirect light to partial sun, tolerating full sun with caution in south-facing windows where scorching is possible.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Tarantula does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with perlite for extra aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and should be protected from frost below 50°F.

Tarantula grows at a steady upright pace and appreciates a diluted balanced fertilizer monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, where winter temperatures rarely dip below 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, coastal and southern California, southern Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. It can also grow outside seasonally in Nevada's lower elevations, coastal Oregon, and the warmer pockets of New Mexico and North Carolina.
  • Q: How often should I water Kalanchoe 'Tarantula'?
A: Check the soil moisture before each watering. Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if any moisture remains, wait another few days. The leaves will soften slightly when water is truly needed.

Q: Can it be moved outside during warmer months?
A: Yes. Kalanchoe 'Tarantula' grows outdoors in summer but needs shelter from heavy rain to avoid overwatering and root rot.

Q: What light does Tarantula need indoors?
A: Bright indirect light or partial sun near a well-lit window works best. South-facing windows can scorch the leaves, so filter direct afternoon sun with a sheer curtain.

Q: Is it safe around pets and children?
A: Tarantula is toxic if eaten, so keep it on a high shelf away from cats, dogs, and small children who might chew the leaves.

Q: How do I get Tarantula to bloom?
A: Move it to a cooler spot in autumn to trigger flowering. A nighttime temperature drop of 10–15 degrees below daytime warmth initiates buds, and keeping it away from heating vents during this period helps blooms develop.

Q: How large does it grow?
A: Tarantula maintains an upright, clustering habit and reaches 8–12 inches tall with a similar spread, fitting easily on shelves, windowsills, and tabletop displays.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
