  •   Kalanchoe Eriophylla, also called Polar Bear, is a rare fuzzy succulent native to the rocky highlands of Madagascar, where it adapted to intense sun, dry air, and dramatic temperature shifts. This compact succulent belongs to the Crassulaceae family and stands out from nearly every other Kalanchoe for its signature woolly coat, earning genuine collector appeal on any shelf or windowsill.

The plant forms tight, clumping rosettes of small rounded leaves densely covered in fine silvery-white hairs that give it a snow-white, felt-like quality. Each rosette clusters with its neighbors over time, slowly building a fuller display that grows more impressive as the rosettes spread. The overall effect is a compact, almost-sculpted form with a softness that makes the foliage endlessly touchable.

Kalanchoe Eriophylla produces pale pink to lilac tubular flowers that emerge on slender stems above the rosettes, typically in late winter to early spring. Blooming is triggered by cooler nights, so a natural drop in nighttime temperature during autumn and winter is the key to coaxing this drought-tolerant succulent into flower.

Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot, but keep it protected from direct rain since wet foliage can cause problems for this drought-tolerant plant. Avoid intense south-facing glass, which can scorch those precious white hairs. Place it on a high shelf out of reach of curious pets and small children, as the sap can cause skin or paw irritation on contact. This fuzzy succulent grows well on a sunny windowsill, a bright desk, or even under quality office LEDs.

  •   Kalanchoe Polar Bear - Kalanchoe eriophylla grows in bright indirect light to partial or direct sun, ideally in an east or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in summer and every 3 to 4 weeks in winter, letting the soil dry completely between waterings.

Kalanchoe Eriophylla does best in a fast-draining mix of cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse sand at roughly a 2:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and should be protected from frost below 40°F.

Kalanchoe Eriophylla is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11 and grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. It also grows outdoors through mild winters along the Oregon coast and in sheltered parts of Nevada, New Mexico, and coastal North Carolina. Everywhere else, this silvery-white succulent performs best as an indoor plant brought outside during warm months.
  • Q: How often should I water Kalanchoe Polar Bear - Kalanchoe eriophylla?
A: In summer, water every 10 to 14 days. In winter, water every 3 to 4 weeks. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

Q: Is this succulent toxic to cats or dogs?
A: Kalanchoe Polar Bear - Kalanchoe eriophylla contains compounds that can cause skin or paw irritation and should not be eaten by pets. Keep it on a high shelf well out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.

Q: How much light does Kalanchoe Eriophylla need to avoid scorching?
A: East or west-facing windows work best. Direct midday sun through south-facing glass can burn the delicate white hairs. Filtered bright light suits it well.

Q: Can this fuzzy succulent go outside during summer?
A: Kalanchoe Eriophylla loves spending summer outdoors in a bright, sheltered spot away from rain. Move it back inside before temperatures drop below 40°F in fall.

Q: How big does Polar Bear grow?
A: It stays compact, typically reaching 4 to 6 inches tall as its rosettes slowly cluster together. The slow growth rate means the same pot can last several years.

Q: What triggers blooming on this plant?
A: Polar Bear needs cooler nights in autumn and winter to set flower buds. Reduce watering slightly during this period and keep it in a cooler room at night to encourage pale pink to lilac tubular flowers in late winter to early spring.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
