The leaves are long, narrow, and lance-shaped, with a bright yellow-green center stripe flanked by darker green edges. They spiral around the stem in tight clusters, giving the plant a layered, full appearance at every node. Song of Jamaica stays relatively compact compared to other dracaena reflexa types, with stems that branch gradually over time.
Flowering indoors is rare and unpredictable, so Song of Jamaica is grown primarily for its variegated foliage rather than its blooms. It filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins, functioning as an air purifying plant in indoor spaces. The upright form holds its shape without staking, and the dense leaf arrangement stays consistent year-round.
It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to air below 55°F.
Q: Is Dracaena Song of Jamaica safe for pets and children?
A: Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or eat the plant, and it is best placed out of reach of small children as well. A high shelf works well for keeping it away from both.
Q: How much light does this plant actually need near a window?
A: Dracaena Song of Jamaica does well within three to five feet of an east- or west-facing window. South-facing windows can scorch the leaf edges, so keep it back from direct sun exposure.
Q: Can Song of Jamaica survive while I'm away on a trip?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without watering. Check that the soil is slightly moist before you leave, and it should hold steady until you return.
Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Song of Jamaica wilts slightly and the leaves lose a little firmness when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil first, as consistently wet soil causes root rot more often than underwatering does.
Q: Does Song of Jamaica do anything to the air in my home?
A: It filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins from the air, which makes it useful in rooms with new furniture, carpets, or paint.
Q: How big does this plant get indoors?
A: Song of Jamaica is a slow grower and typically reaches two to four feet tall indoors over several years, depending on pot size and light conditions.

🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
