  •   Window Haworthia - Haworthia retusa f. geraldii is a compact succulent from the Asphodelaceae family, native to South Africa's Western Cape. It grows naturally in rocky, semi-arid regions beneath shrubs and rocks, where low light conditions shelter it from intense sun. This adaptation makes it one of the few succulents that grows well indoors without demanding bright direct light.

Haworthia Geraldii forms tight, upright rosettes of plump triangular green leaves, each tipped with a flat, translucent "window" that allows light to penetrate deep into the inner tissue. The plant stays compact, reaching roughly 2 to 4 inches in width, and spreads gradually by producing offsets around its base. It grows upright without trailing or sprawling, making it a desk plant, bedroom plant, or windowsill specimen that fits any shelf or table.

It sends up slender stems bearing small tubular white flowers in spring or summer, though indoor blooming is modest and infrequent. The plant uses CAM photosynthesis and releases oxygen at night, continuing to refresh air even during the dark hours.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Keep it away from direct south-facing window sun, which bleaches the translucent leaf tips. Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot with indirect light, and bring it back inside before temperatures drop in autumn. Haworthia Geraldii is cat friendly and dog friendly, so you can safely display it at floor or shelf level without concern.

  •   Window Haworthia - Haworthia retusa f. geraldii grows well in bright indirect light, low light, and standard office LED lighting.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season and once a month or less in winter, allowing soil to dry completely.

Haworthia Geraldii does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with extra perlite for optimal drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65 to 80°F and should be protected from frost below 40°F.

Haworthia Geraldii is a slow grower needing only a light, balanced succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25 to 30°F but performing best with frost-free winters. It grows outdoors in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal Oregon. It may also succeed in warmer pockets of New Mexico, Arkansas, and North Carolina's coastal plain with light winter protection.
  • Q: Is Window Haworthia - Haworthia retusa f. geraldii pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

    Q: What causes yellowing leaves?
A: Window Haworthia - Haworthia retusa f. geraldii yellows most often from overwatering or soggy soil. Cut back on watering and ensure good drainage; recovery is usually quick.

Q: Which window direction works best for Haworthia Geraldii indoors?
A: East, west, or north-facing windows all work well. Intense afternoon rays from south-facing exposure will scorch the translucent leaf tips, so keep it away from that direction. Office LEDs or shelf placement in rooms with moderate ambient light also work.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Haworthia Geraldii produces offsets around its base that you can gently remove and pot individually in well-draining succulent mix. Let offsets dry for a day before planting to reduce rot risk.

Q: How large does Haworthia Geraldii grow?
A: Size varies by conditions, but most plants remain under 4 inches wide and can be divided as offsets accumulate around the base to manage space.

Q: Can it survive outdoors year-round?
A: Haworthia Geraldii grows outdoors in USDA zones 9 to 11 and survives brief freezes to around 25 to 30°F, but frost protection is needed in colder regions during winter.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
