  •   Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata is a compact succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It grows naturally in rocky, semi-arid terrain, tucked under shrubs and stones where light is bright but filtered.

The leaves are thick, tapered, and dark green, arranged in a tight rosette that typically reaches 3 to 5 inches across. Unlike the standard Haworthia attenuata, the glabrata variety has notably smoother leaf surfaces, with white tubercles concentrated mostly on the undersides rather than covering both faces. The leaves are firm to the touch and slightly inward-curving toward the tip.

Haworthia Glabrata produces slender flower stalks that can reach several inches tall, bearing small, tubular white flowers with faint greenish or pinkish striping. Blooms appear most often in summer, though a drop in nighttime temperature can encourage flowering. The flowers are not fragrant. This plant is pet friendly.

You can move it outside for the summer months, but place it under a porch or pergola where rain does not collect in the rosette. Keep it away from south-facing windows indoors, where the leaves can scorch. It grows well under standard office LED lighting and handles the dry air from heating and cooling systems. Deep roots develop even in small plants, so a heavier pot helps prevent tipping. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and rotating the pot every few weeks keeps the rosette growing evenly.

  •   Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata grows well under bright indirect light or standard office LEDs, away from direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Haworthia Glabrata does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix with very low organic content.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and stays away from cold drafts, AC vents, and heat registers.

Haworthia Glabrata is a slow grower; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted cactus fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F for brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in parts of Oregon, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal North Carolina where winters stay mild.
  • Q: Is Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when this succulent needs water?
A: Haworthia attenuata var. glabrata will wilt slightly and the leaves may feel less firm when the soil has been dry too long. Overwatering is a more common problem, and roots will rot if the soil stays wet.

Q: Can Haworthia Glabrata grow in an office with no windows?
A: It handles standard LED office lighting well, though a spot closer to a light source produces a tighter, more compact rosette.

Q: How fast does this plant grow?
A: Haworthia Glabrata is a slow grower, typically adding just one or two new leaves per month during the active season.

Q: Can Haworthia Glabrata go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay above 50°F. Keep it under cover so rain does not pool in the rosette, and avoid full afternoon sun exposure.

Q: Does this succulent need a special pot?
A: Because Haworthia Glabrata develops deep roots even at a small size, a heavier ceramic or terracotta pot helps keep it stable and also encourages the right soil moisture cycle.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
