  •   Hoya Carnosa 'Chelsea', also called a wax plant, is a trailing vining succulent from the Apocynaceae family native to East and Southeast Asia. This cultivar has been collected for decades for its simple care and distinctive foliage.

Hoya Chelsea is recognizable by its thick, cupped, round leaves with a deep central curl that creates a spoon-like shape. The waxy, succulent-like foliage is dark green, sometimes with lighter variegation, and has a glossy porcelain finish that earned hoyas the nickname "porcelain flower." The vines trail and elongate over time, making it a natural choice for hanging baskets and high shelves.

It produces clusters of star-shaped flowers in pale pink to white with a deep rose-pink center, called umbels. Blooms carry a sweet fragrance and typically appear in spring and summer when the plant matures and experiences a cool night temperature drop, which triggers flowering. Once buds form, avoid moving it, as the plant is sensitive to relocation and may drop buds in response.

Hoya Chelsea purifies indoor air by filtering formaldehyde and other household toxins while releasing oxygen at night. It grows well near kitchen moisture and on a hanging hook where the vines can trail. You can move it to a warm, sheltered outdoor spot in summer, but keep it protected from direct rain. It is pet-safe and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

  •   Hoya Carnosa 'Chelsea' grows well in bright indirect light and adapts to medium light or office LED conditions, though intense south-facing sun can scorch the leaves.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in summer and every 3 to 4 weeks in winter, allowing the soil to dry out fully between waterings.

Hoya Chelsea does best in a well-draining mix of perlite, orchid bark, and standard potting soil to prevent root rot and keep roots airy.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and should not be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F.

Hoya Chelsea is a moderate grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during the active growing season in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, where temperatures rarely dip below 20 to 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, California, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada, as well as mild coastal areas of Oregon and Washington. Gardeners in other zones should bring it indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: Is Hoya Carnosa 'Chelsea' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: Why is my plant not blooming?
A: Hoya Carnosa 'Chelsea' needs a noticeable cool-night temperature drop and time to mature before flowering begins. Do not move the plant once buds appear, as relocation triggers bud drop.

Q: How often should Hoya Chelsea be watered?
A: Water when the soil dries completely, which is typically every 10 to 14 days in warm months. Slight leaf wilting indicates thirst.

Q: Can this plant go outside in summer?
A: Move Hoya Chelsea to a warm, sheltered spot outdoors but protect it from direct rain and strong sun. Bring it back inside before nighttime temperatures fall below 50°F.

Q: How do I propagate Hoya Chelsea?
A: Take a stem cutting with at least two nodes, let the cut end callous for an hour, then root it in moist perlite or water. It roots within four to six weeks in warm, bright conditions.

Q: Does this plant purify indoor air?
A: Hoya Chelsea filters formaldehyde and household toxins while releasing oxygen at night, making it a smart choice for bedrooms and home offices.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
