  •   Snake Plant Gold Hahnii Sansevieria (Sansevieria trifasciata 'Hahnii'), also called the golden hahnii, is a dwarf cultivar of the classic bird's nest sansevieria native to West Africa. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows naturally in dry, rocky soils with low rainfall and high heat.

The leaves are short, broad, and arranged in a tight, compact rosette that stays low to the ground. Each leaf is deep green with creamy gold margins running along the edges and faint horizontal banding across the surface. Golden Bird's Nest typically reaches 6 to 8 inches tall, with individual leaves that are thick, stiff, and slightly concave. The rosette form gives it a dense, nested appearance that sets it apart from taller upright sansevierias.

Golden Bird's Nest rarely flowers indoors, but when a nighttime temperature drop occurs over several consecutive weeks, it can produce a slender flower spike with small, tubular, pale greenish-white blooms that carry a faint, sweet fragrance. Outdoors in warm climates, blooming is more likely in late summer or early autumn. It also filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor spaces and releases oxygen at night rather than during the day.

Move it outside once temperatures stay above 50°F in summer, but place it under a porch roof or overhang since the leaves and roots are sensitive to standing water from rain. It grows well under standard office LED lighting, so it fits on desks, shelves, and countertops where natural light is limited. You can leave it up to ten days without water, which works well during travel. Keep it on a high shelf or out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children, as the leaves and sap can cause irritation and the plant should not be ingested. Dry, heated indoor air from radiators or AC units does not harm it, though direct airflow from vents dries the soil faster than usual.

  •   Snake Plant Gold Hahnii Sansevieria grows well in bright indirect light but also handles medium and low light, including office LEDs.

It needs water every 10 to 14 days in the growing season and once a month in winter, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Golden Bird's Nest does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix combined with extra perlite to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to air below 50°F or prolonged cold drafts from open windows.

Golden Bird's Nest is a slow-growing dwarf plant; feed it with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer once in spring and once in midsummer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F for very short periods only. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in coastal Oregon and Washington in sheltered microclimates within those zones.
  • Q: How much light does Snake Plant Gold Hahnii Sansevieria need?
A: A north- or east-facing window works well. West or south windows can scorch the leaf edges if the plant sits directly against the glass, so pull it back at least two to three feet from a south-facing pane.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Snake Plant Gold Hahnii Sansevieria will wilt very slightly and the leaves may feel less firm when the soil has been dry too long. Overwatering is a bigger risk than underwatering, and soggy soil leads to soft, yellowing leaves at the base.

Q: Is Golden Bird's Nest safe around pets?
A: Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or eat the plant. The sap can also cause mild skin or paw irritation on contact, so keep it out of reach of curious pets.

Q: How big does this plant get?
A: Golden Bird's Nest stays compact, usually reaching 6 to 8 inches tall and spreading 4 to 6 inches wide at maturity, so it fits comfortably on a desk or windowsill.

Q: Can Golden Bird's Nest be propagated at home?
A: Yes, it propagates through offsets, which appear at the base of a mature rosette. Gently separate an offset once it has a few leaves of its own, let the cut end dry for a day, then pot it in dry succulent mix.

Q: What should I do with it during summer?
A: Golden Bird's Nest can move outside once nights stay above 50°F. Place it in a bright spot with shelter from direct rain, as water pooling in the rosette or saturating the roots can cause rot quickly.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
