  •   Peperomia 'Green Bean', also called the happy bean plant, is a semi-succulent houseplant in the Piperaceae family native to the rainforest floors of Peru. Known botanically as Peperomia ferreyrae, it stores water in its narrow, curved leaves and grows into a compact upright form well suited to indoor life.

The leaves are long, slender, and curved inward, resembling green bean pods, with a translucent window-like strip running along the top surface that lets light reach the inner tissue. Green Bean Peperomia holds its leaves densely along upright stems, building a full, bushy shape over time. The foliage is bright green with a slightly waxy surface, and each leaf tapers to a fine point.

It produces small, narrow flower spikes that are pale green or cream, typically appearing in spring or summer. The blooms are modest and carry no fragrance. Green Bean Peperomia is also a confirmed air-purifying plant, filtering toxins including formaldehyde from indoor spaces, and this plant is pet friendly, making it safe around cats and dogs.

Rotate it a quarter turn every week or two so all sides receive even light and the plant grows symmetrically. It thrives under standard office LED lighting and handles the dry heated air common in homes during winter. Keep it away from air conditioning and heating vents, where direct airflow can stress the leaves. Green Bean Peperomia works well inside a terrarium and can move outside for summer in a sheltered spot, though it needs cover from rain to prevent waterlogging. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. The kitchen windowsill suits it well, where ambient moisture from cooking can benefit the foliage.

  •   Peperomia 'Green Bean' grows well in bright indirect light, such as a few feet from an east or west-facing window.

It needs water every 10-14 days, allowing the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings.

Green Bean Peperomia does best in a well-draining mix of potting soil combined with perlite or cactus mix.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should be kept away from cold drafts below 50°F.

Green Bean Peperomia is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, and Arizona. It can move outside for summer in cooler states and stay out into autumn where temperatures remain mild.
  • Q: How often should I water Peperomia 'Green Bean'?
A: Check the soil before watering. If the top two inches are still damp, wait a few more days. The stems and leaves will begin to look slightly limp when the plant is genuinely thirsty.

Q: Does this plant scorch easily near a window?
A: Peperomia 'Green Bean' can scorch when placed directly against a south-facing window. Pull it back a few feet or move it to an east or west-facing window where the light is less intense.

Q: Is Green Bean Peperomia safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and listed as pet friendly.

Q: How big does this plant get indoors?
A: Green Bean Peperomia typically reaches 8-12 inches tall and wide at maturity, staying compact on a desk or windowsill.

Q: Can Green Bean Peperomia grow in an office with no natural light?
A: Yes, it grows under standard fluorescent and LED office lighting without needing a natural window nearby.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Green Bean Peperomia propagates easily from stem cuttings. Snip a short stem with a few leaves, let the cut end dry for an hour, then place it in moist perlite or potting mix.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
