  •   Peperomia 'Angulata', also called Beetle Peperomia, is a compact trailing houseplant in the Piperaceae family, native to tropical South America. It grows naturally in the understory of humid forests in countries like Ecuador and Peru, where it spreads along shaded forest floors and climbs low over moist ground.

The leaves are small, oval, and dark green with pale yellow-green horizontal stripes running across the surface, giving them a ribbed, beetle-wing appearance. Stems are slender and reddish-brown, trailing outward as the plant grows. Each leaf sits alternately along the stem and stays under an inch long, with a slightly glossy texture on the upper surface.

Beetle Peperomia produces thin, upright flower spikes called spadix-type inflorescences, cream to pale green in color, which appear sporadically throughout the year rather than in a defined season. They are unscented and modest in size. It is also a pet-friendly houseplant, non-toxic to cats and dogs, and filters indoor air including formaldehyde and other household toxins.

Hang it in a basket near a kitchen window, where ambient moisture from cooking supports steady growth. It works well inside a terrarium, where enclosed humidity keeps the foliage consistent. Rotate it every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. You can move it outside in summer, though it needs cover from rain and protection from direct sun. It wilts slightly when dry, and you can leave it up to ten days without water between trips.

  •   Peperomia 'Angulata' grows well in bright indirect light and holds up under standard office LED lighting. It scorches in south-facing windows, so keep it back from direct sun exposure.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between sessions. Cut back to every three weeks in winter.

Beetle Peperomia does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir blended with perlite at roughly 50/50. Good drainage at the root level prevents rot in the thick stems.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and stays healthiest away from air conditioning vents and heating units. Cold drafts or blasts of dry air cause leaf drop.

Beetle Peperomia is a slow to moderate grower, typically trailing 8 to 12 inches over a season. Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 50°F before showing stress. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, coastal Texas, and Arizona's warmest valleys. It can stay outside through autumn in zone 10 areas where temperatures stay above 55°F at night.
  • Q: Is Peperomia 'Angulata' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and listed as pet-friendly by major veterinary poison databases.

Q: How much light does this plant actually need indoors?
A: Peperomia 'Angulata' does well a few feet back from an east or west-facing window. Leaves near a south window develop pale, washed-out patches where the surface has scorched.

Q: How do I know when Beetle Peperomia needs water?
A: It wilts slightly and the leaves soften when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than going by a fixed schedule.

Q: Does this plant do well in a terrarium?
A: Beetle Peperomia handles enclosed terrarium conditions well, where higher humidity supports the trailing stems and keeps leaf texture consistent.

Q: Can Beetle Peperomia handle being left alone for a week or two?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water without the plant suffering lasting damage.

Q: Does this plant actually clean the air?
A: Beetle Peperomia filters indoor air and has been shown to absorb formaldehyde and other common household toxins through its foliage.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
