  •   Hoya Obovata Splash is a tropical wax plant from the Apocynaceae family, native to Southeast Asia, India, and parts of the Pacific Islands. It grows naturally in humid forests, clinging to trees and rocky surfaces where it receives filtered light and warm temperatures year-round.

The thick, round to oval leaves are recognizable by their silver and white speckles splattered across a deep green background, creating that signature "splash" variegation. The leaves are waxy and succulent-like in texture, growing in opposite pairs along long trailing vines. No two leaves carry the same pattern, making each plant a unique specimen.

It produces clusters of small, star-shaped flowers in soft pink tones with a waxy, porcelain appearance and a light, sweet fragrance. Blooms emerge most reliably when the plant experiences a slight drop in nighttime temperature after summer heat, so cooling conditions help trigger flowering. The plant does produce pollen, which may cause mild reactions in homes where someone has plant allergies.

This air purifying plant filters formaldehyde and other toxins from indoor air and is safe for cats and dogs. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered, shaded spot with good airflow, then bring it back inside before temperatures drop in autumn. It grows well in bright kitchens, living rooms, or any space with good ambient humidity.

  •   Hoya Obovata Splash grows well in bright indirect light and may scorch in south-facing windows with intense afternoon sun.

Water it every 10-14 days in summer and every 3-4 weeks in winter, allowing soil to dry between waterings.

Hoya Obovata Splash prefers a fast-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and standard potting soil in roughly equal parts.

It prefers temperatures between 60-85°F and should be protected from frost and cold drafts below 50°F.

Hoya Obovata Splash grows at a moderate pace and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11 and cannot tolerate frost or temperatures below 30°F outdoors. It grows year-round outside in California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and along the Oregon coast. In all other continental US states and Hawaii, it grows as an indoor trailing plant and can move outside during warm summer months.
  • Q: Is Hoya Obovata Splash pet friendly?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs, though the milky sap can occasionally cause mild skin or paw irritation on contact.

Q: How do I get blooms on my plant?
A: Hoya Obovata Splash flowers most reliably when it experiences a slight temperature drop to around 55-60°F after summer. Keeping it slightly root-bound and avoiding relocation once buds form also helps trigger blooming.

Q: Can Hoya Obovata Splash grow under LED office lighting?
A: Yes, it adapts reasonably well to standard LED lighting in office settings. Lower-light office environments can support its growth better than many trailing plants, though bright indirect light remains optimal.

Q: How do I know when to water?
A: Hoya Obovata Splash shows mild wilting when thirsty. Let soil dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

Q: Can I propagate Hoya Obovata Splash from cuttings?
A: Yes, take stem cuttings with at least one node and root them in water or moist perlite. Keep cuttings warm and humid for the best success rate.

Q: What happens if temperatures drop too low?
A: Hoya Obovata Splash cannot tolerate frost or sustained cold below 50°F outdoors. Bring it inside before autumn temperatures fall and keep it away from cold drafts near windows and doors.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
