Dracaena Marginata 'Sunshine' - Dracaena Kiwi, also called the Kiwi Dragon Tree, is a variegated cultivar of the Madagascar dragon tree, native to the island of Madagascar off the eastern coast of Africa. It belongs to the Asparagaceae family and grows naturally in semi-arid, rocky terrain with bright, filtered light.

The leaves are long and narrow, arching outward from a central cane, with green centers edged in creamy yellow and bordered by thin burgundy-red margins. New growth pushes up from the top of each cane, forming a loose crown of foliage as the lower leaves gradually shed and leave behind a textured, ringed trunk. Indoors, canes can reach four to six feet tall over several years.

Dracaena kiwi rarely flowers indoors, so the foliage carries most of the plant's visual interest. It filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor spaces, and purifies indoor air as it grows. Rotating the pot a quarter turn every few weeks keeps growth even on all sides.

Move it outside once temperatures stay consistently above 55°F, but place it under a covered area where rainfall doesn't soak the soil directly. The sap can cause skin or paw irritation on contact, and cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat the plant. Keep it on a high shelf or out of reach of both pets and small children. It grows well under office LED lighting, and the moisture near a kitchen or bathroom suits it without any extra effort.
