  •   Haworthia Cymbiformis Var. Obtusa is a compact succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. In its native habitat, it grows sheltered beneath shrubs and rocky outcrops, which is why it grows well in the low to medium light of homes and offices. This succulent works for desk plants, windowsill collections, and anyone starting with succulents.

Haworthia Obtusa forms tight, clumping rosettes of plump, boat-shaped leaves in soft, translucent green. The leaf tips are distinctly rounded and blunt compared to other varieties, creating a cushion-like appearance. Individual rosettes stay compact, typically reaching 2 to 4 inches across, and slowly multiply into satisfying clumps over time.

It produces slender flower stalks with small, tubular white to pale pink blooms, typically appearing in late spring or summer. A slight drop in nighttime temperatures can encourage flowering.

Move it outside in summer to a shaded or bright indirect spot, but protect it from rain and direct intense sun. It handles office LEDs, dry heated indoor air, and tolerates neglect better than many houseplants. Haworthia Obtusa is pet-safe for cats and dogs, making it an excellent choice for households with curious pets.

  •   Haworthia Cymbiformis Var. Obtusa grows well in low to bright indirect light but scorches in direct south-facing windows.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Haworthia Obtusa does best in well-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with perlite for added drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80°F and must be protected from frost below 40°F.

Haworthia Obtusa is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a light, balanced fertilizer applied once in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 and 11, where temperatures rarely drop below 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, coastal and southern California, Hawaii, southern Texas, southern Arizona, and parts of Nevada and Louisiana. It also tolerates outdoors in sheltered spots during warmer months in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Oregon's mild coastal regions, though winter indoors remains the safest approach.
  • Q: Is Haworthia Cymbiformis Var. Obtusa safe for pets?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What happens if this plant gets too much direct sun?
A: Haworthia Cymbiformis Var. Obtusa develops scorched, faded patches on the leaves; bright indirect light prevents this damage.

Q: How big does Haworthia Obtusa get?
A: Individual rosettes reach about 2 to 4 inches across and slowly form clumps as offsets develop around the base.

Q: Can I propagate it at home?
A: Haworthia Obtusa propagates easily by dividing the offsets or pups that form around the mother rosette, separating them with roots attached and potting them into well-draining succulent mix.

Q: Does Haworthia Obtusa need fertilizer?
A: Light feeding in spring and summer supports growth, but it is not required given the slow growth rate.

Q: How do I know when to water?
A: Haworthia Obtusa will feel slightly soft or limp before you water; the leaves also appear slightly less turgid when the soil has been dry for several days.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
