  •   Haworthia Retusa, also called Star Window Plant, is a compact succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows among rocky, semi-arid terrain. It has a distinctive architectural form.

It forms a tight, clumping rosette of thick, triangular leaves tipped with flattened, translucent "windows" that glow lime green when backlit. Each leaf catches and diffuses light, and individual rosettes stay compact, typically reaching 3 to 5 inches in diameter. Over time, offsets form around the mother plant, building attractive cushion-like clusters.

While not grown primarily for its blooms, plants that experience a slight temperature drop in late winter or spring may produce slender stalks bearing small tubular white flowers. The blooms appear occasionally rather than reliably each year, so they are a pleasant bonus rather than a main feature.

This succulent works well on desks, shelves, and in terrariums, making it a practical bedroom plant or office companion. Move it outside to a sheltered patio spot for summer, keeping it away from rain and harsh afternoon sun. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs. It propagates easily from offsets that form around the base. Simply separate a pup, let it callous for a day or two, then pot it in fresh succulent mix.

  •   Haworthia Retusa grows well in bright indirect light or medium light, such as an east or west-facing window away from direct midday sun.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, then reduce to once monthly in winter.

Haworthia Retusa does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix combined with extra perlite for excellent aeration and drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80°F and must stay above 40°F, as it is not frost tolerant.

Haworthia Retusa is a slow grower and needs only a light balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9–11 and tolerates outdoor conditions down to about 25°F with protection, though it performs best where winters stay mild. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, as well as coastal areas of Oregon and parts of North Carolina.
  • Q: How often should I water Haworthia Retusa?
A: Every 2 to 3 weeks during spring and summer with full soil drying between waterings, then once monthly in fall and winter.

Q: What light conditions work best?
A: Haworthia Retusa adapts well to bright indirect light and medium light conditions, including office LED lights. Rotate it regularly so all sides receive even exposure, and watch for leaf scorching in intense south-facing sun.

    Q: Is Haworthia Retusa pet-friendly?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and safe for homes with curious animals.

Q: How large does it grow?
A: Haworthia Retusa stays compact, with individual rosettes reaching 3 to 5 inches in diameter and forming attractive clumps over time as offsets develop.

Q: How do I propagate Star Window Plant?
A: Gently separate the offsets that form around the base of the mother plant, allow them to callous for a day or two, then pot each in fresh succulent mix.

Q: Can this plant survive outdoors?
A: Star Window Plant grows outdoors in USDA zones 9–11 across much of the Sun Belt. Move it to a sheltered location, shield it from rain, and protect it from harsh afternoon sun.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
