  •   Sempervivum 'Moss Rose' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountains of Europe and western Asia. It evolved in rocky, exposed terrain with minimal water and extreme temperature swings, making it one of the most resilient succulents you can grow indoors or outdoors.

Moss Rose forms tight, symmetrical rosettes packed with fleshy, pointed leaves that radiate outward in geometric patterns. The foliage shifts with the seasons, deepening to rosy-pink or reddish hues under stress or cooler temperatures. It grows upright and clustering, steadily multiplying by producing offsets, or "chicks," that fill a pot or garden bed over time.

Blooming requires a period of cooler night temperatures, so moving it outside for summer or leaving it outdoors in autumn often triggers flowers. The rosette that blooms completes its lifecycle after flowering, but the surrounding chicks carry on, keeping the colony full. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Moss Rose handles balcony wind, rain, and indoor dry air without trouble. Move it outside in summer and keep it there through autumn. It is pet friendly and safe for households with cats and dogs. You can propagate it by gently separating the offsets clustered around the mother rosette and potting them up in succulent mix, where they root quickly.

  •   Sempervivum 'Moss Rose' grows well in bright indirect light but tolerates some direct sun, though intense south-facing windows may scorch the leaves.

Water it thoroughly every 10-14 days in summer, cutting back to once a month or less in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Moss Rose does best in a well-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with extra perlite or coarse grit.

It handles a wide temperature range from 65-75°F indoors and tolerates freezing temperatures well below 32°F outdoors.

Moss Rose is a moderate grower that needs little fertilizer, perhaps one light feeding in spring to encourage offset production.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 3-8, tolerating winter lows as severe as -40°F in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors year-round across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kentucky. In the warmer edges of Zone 8, including parts of Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and the Pacific Northwest, it grows outdoors year-round with well-drained soil and protection from excessive winter wet.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Moss Rose' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for households with pets.

Q: Can it survive indoors in low light?
A: Sempervivum 'Moss Rose' performs best in bright indirect light; low light causes weak, pale growth and may prevent blooming even with cooler temperatures.

Q: How fast does Moss Rose spread?
A: It steadily produces offsets around the mother rosette over the season, filling a container gradually rather than aggressively.

Q: What happens if I overwater?
A: Moss Rose develops root rot, which causes the base to turn mushy and black.

Q: Can Moss Rose grow outside year-round?
A: It survives harsh winters outdoors in Zones 3-8 and handles balcony wind and rain without needing to come indoors.

Q: How do I separate and propagate the offsets?
A: Gently pull the chicks away from the mother rosette, pot them in succulent mix, and Moss Rose offsets root quickly.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
