  •   Sempervivum 'Kristina' is a cold-hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe and western Asia. This alpine succulent evolved on rocky slopes where harsh conditions are standard, and it ranks among the toughest and most drought-tolerant plants you can grow indoors or outdoors.

Kristina forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that shift from green to red at the tips in full sun. It clusters freely over time, producing offset rosettes called chicks that spread outward from the mother plant in a low, ground-hugging mat. The compact geometric form and two-tone leaf color stand out in any pot, rock garden, or trough planter.

Like all Sempervivum, mature rosettes produce tall flower stalks when nighttime temperatures drop, triggering the bloom cycle. After flowering, that individual rosette completes its life cycle, but the surrounding chicks continue growing, so the plant as a whole persists and expands year after year.

Move it outside in summer, or leave it outdoors year-round in cold-hardy zones. It handles balcony wind and rain without trouble and tolerates dry indoor air. Kristina propagates easily from the small offset rosettes that form naturally. You can leave it up to ten days without water. This succulent is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

  •   Sempervivum 'Kristina' grows well in partial sun to full sun, needing at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry out completely between waterings, roughly every ten to fourteen days indoors.

Kristina does best in fast-draining soil, such as a cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite or coarse grit.

It handles a wide temperature range from 65–80°F in summer down to well below freezing in winter, tolerating severe frost.

Kristina is a moderate grower that needs little to no fertilizer; a single light feed in spring is more than enough.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 3 through 8, tolerating winter temperatures as low as -40°F. It grows outdoors year-round across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Utah. It also grows as an outdoor perennial in the milder edges of Zone 8, including parts of Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the Pacific Northwest.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Kristina' safe for households with cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when the soil is dry enough to water again?
A: Sempervivum 'Kristina' stores water in its leaves, so wait until the soil feels completely dry to the touch. Overwatering causes rot faster than any other mistake.

Q: Can Kristina survive outdoors through winter?
A: It survives temperatures as low as -40°F and grows outdoors year-round in most of the continental US.

Q: How do I propagate Kristina?
A: Detach the small offset rosettes (chicks) once they develop roots, then pot them up or plant them directly in the garden.

Q: Does it need a lot of fertilizer?
A: Kristina requires no fertilizer; light feeding in spring is optional and supports moderate growth.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
