    •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Torrid Zone' is a frost hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountain regions of southeastern Europe where it grows in rocky alpine terrain and thin, well-drained soils. As a cold hardy hens and chicks succulent, it forms tight rosette clusters that multiply steadily.

        'Torrid Zone' features copper-red rosettes edged in deep burgundy, with leaves that develop their most intense coloration in full sun. Each rosette is firm and fleshy, with pointed, tightly packed leaves arranged in a tight cluster. It forms a dense, low-growing mat as it clusters outward, spreading wide to fill gaps with layered color.

        Like other hens and chicks succulents, it may produce star-shaped flowers on tall stalks from mature rosettes in summer, especially when temperatures drop at night. After a rosette blooms, it completes its lifecycle and the surrounding offsets continue the display without interruption.

        'Torrid Zone' works in rock gardens, alpine troughs, green roofs, and sunny borders, and it handles balcony wind and rain with ease. Move it outside in summer to intensify its copper tones.
