  •   Sempervivum Colorockz 'Summer Frost' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, descended from alpine Sempervivum species native to the rocky mountains of Europe and western Asia. It evolved in harsh, exposed terrain, inheriting exceptional resilience and low-water demands.

'Summer Frost' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes covered in fine silvery hairs that give each leaf a frosted, glittering appearance. The foliage blends cool greens with icy silver tones across dense clusters that spread by producing small offsets around the mother plant, building into a textured mat over time.

Like all Sempervivum, individual rosettes bloom once before naturally dying back, while the surrounding offsets continue the colony. Between bloom cycles, the silvery-haired leaves and dense clustering habit provide year-round visual appeal on balconies, rock gardens, and alpine-style plantings.

Move it outside for summer and it stays comfortable on patios well into autumn, shrugging off chilly nights that stress most plants. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

  •   Sempervivum Colorockz 'Summer Frost' grows well in partial sun to full sun, getting at least 4-6 hours of bright direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, roughly every 10-14 days in summer and even less during winter months.

'Summer Frost' does best in gritty, fast-draining soil such as cactus mix blended with perlite or coarse sand.

It handles temperatures from 25°F to 85°F, tolerating light frost with ease across its hardiness range.

'Summer Frost' is a slow to moderate grower requiring little fertilizer, at most a diluted balanced feed once in spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4-9, tolerating winter lows down to around -30°F in colder zones and performing through light frost. It grows outdoors year-round throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. It also grows well in warmer reaches of zone 9 including parts of California, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and northern Florida with afternoon shade during peak summer heat.
  • Q: How often should I water Sempervivum Colorockz 'Summer Frost'?
A: During the growing season, let soil dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce to once a month or less; the extended drying period prevents root rot during dormancy.

Q: Is this plant non-toxic to pets?
A: Sempervivum Colorockz 'Summer Frost' is completely safe for cats and dogs and won't cause harm if chewed.

Q: How much light does 'Summer Frost' actually need to stay compact?
A: At least 4-6 hours of direct sun daily keeps rosettes tight and foliage color vibrant. In partial shade, rosettes may stretch slightly as they reach for light.

Q: Can this succulent survive outdoors year-round in cold climates?
A: 'Summer Frost' stays outdoors through autumn and winter in zones 4-9, surviving temperatures down to -30°F without additional protection.

Q: How does 'Summer Frost' spread and multiply?
A: It produces small offsets, or chicks, around the base of the mother rosette. Once they develop roots of their own, lift and replant them in fresh, well-draining soil to establish new colonies.

Q: What soil setup prevents root rot in this drought tolerant succulent?
A: Fast-draining cactus soil mixed with perlite or coarse sand allows water to move through quickly; standing moisture in dense or heavy soil is the primary cause of root failure in 'Summer Frost'.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
