    •   Sempervivum ciliosum borisii is a rare frost hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to rocky mountain habitats in the Balkans. It has adapted to harsh outdoor conditions and grows equally well in a garden rockery or a sunny windowsill container.

        It forms tight, silvery rosettes densely covered in fine white hairs or cilia that give each rosette a frosted, cobweb-like appearance. It grows in a clustering, clumping habit, steadily spreading to form a wide mat of offsets around the mother plant. Individual rosettes typically reach 2 to 3 inches across.

        It is a monocarpic bloomer, meaning the mother rosette flowers once then makes way for its many offsets to carry on. The plant typically sends up a stalk bearing small star-shaped flowers in summer, after which the surrounding chicks fill in the space. A night temperature drop encourages the bloom cycle, so outdoor or unheated greenhouse growing works especially well for this species.
