  •   Sempervivum 'Beautiful' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe and western Asia where it grows on rocky alpine slopes. For centuries, gardeners have cultivated it for its ability to adapt to nearly any climate and growing condition.

'Beautiful' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that cluster and spread into mats over time. The foliage comes in jewel-toned colors with excellent texture and definition, making each rosette geometrically eye-catching whether grown in a pot, rock garden, or container arrangement.

Each rosette of 'Beautiful' blooms once before the mother hen fades, but the plant compensates by continuously producing new offsets called chicks that keep the clump full and ever-expanding throughout the growing season. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Move 'Beautiful' outside in summer, or keep it on a balcony year-round. It grows well in drafty spots that would stress most houseplants and tolerates frost down to around -40°F, making it suited for year-round container displays or permanent garden planting. The plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs. Propagate 'Beautiful' by gently separating the chicks once they reach about a third the size of the mother rosette and potting them into well-draining succulent mix.

  •   Sempervivum 'Beautiful' grows well in full sun to partial sun and appreciates direct outdoor light for best color and compact growth.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, roughly every 10 to 14 days.

'Beautiful' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus and succulent soil blended with perlite or coarse sand.

It handles temperatures from around 65°F down to well below freezing, tolerating frost and cold winters with ease.

'Beautiful' is a slow to moderate grower and rarely needs fertilizer, though a light, diluted succulent feed in spring can encourage healthy offsets.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9, surviving frost down to roughly -40°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. It also grows well in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. It performs equally well in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California.
  • Q: How often should I water Sempervivum 'Beautiful'?
A: The frequency depends on your climate and light levels. In a sunny location, check the soil every week; if the top inch is dry, water deeply. In cooler or shadier spots, extend the interval to two to three weeks.

Q: Is it safe around pets?
A: Sempervivum 'Beautiful' is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: Can 'Beautiful' survive winter outdoors?
A: Yes, it survives frost and freezing temperatures down to approximately -40°F and stays outdoors through autumn and winter in most climates.

Q: How fast does it spread?
A: Beautiful grows at a slow to moderate pace, steadily producing offsets that cluster around the mother rosette; a single plant can form a full, spreading mat over a season or two.

Q: Does 'Beautiful' need much sunlight?
A: It performs best with at least four to six hours of direct light daily. Indoor windowsills may not provide enough intensity, so outdoor placement or a grow light helps maintain compact rosette form.

Q: How do I propagate it?
A: Gently separate the offsets once they reach about a third the size of the mother rosette and pot them into well-draining succulent mix. Water lightly until the roots establish in the new soil.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
