  •   Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Robin' is a frost hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe including the Alps and Pyrenees. It evolved in rocky, exposed alpine terrain where it developed extraordinary resilience to extreme cold and drought.

The white filaments that stretch across its rosette tips create a frosted, otherworldly appearance and earning it the common names cobweb houseleek and spiderweb succulent. Its fleshy leaves form tight, symmetrical rosettes in shades of green often flushed with rose or red at the tips. Robin clusters steadily by producing offsets, or "chicks," that radiate outward from the mother rosette to create a carpet-like colony.

Robin typically blooms in summer, sending up a stout flower stalk crowned with star-shaped pink to reddish flowers. Like all Sempervivums, individual rosettes are monocarpic, meaning the blooming rosette dies after flowering, but the surrounding chicks quickly fill the gap. A drop in night temperatures can help trigger blooming.

Robin grows outdoors through autumn and winter without protection in most climates. It grows in rock gardens, alpine troughs, container arrangements, green roofs, and balcony planters, handling wind and rain with ease. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, and it tolerates the dry heated air of indoor spaces.

  •   Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Robin' grows well in full sun to partial sun, needing at least 4-6 hours of direct light daily.

Water it every 2-3 weeks in summer, reducing to once a month or less in winter.

Robin does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with extra perlite or coarse grit.

It handles temperatures from -30°F up to around 90°F with good airflow.

Robin is a steady, moderate spreader that rarely needs fertilizer, though a light spring feed can boost offset production.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4-9, tolerating frost well below 0°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Robin' pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window direction works best for this alpine succulent?
A: Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Robin' grows strongest in south or west-facing windows where it receives the most direct sun, though north or east-facing placement still works if the light is bright enough.

Q: How big does Robin get?
A: Individual rosettes reach about 1-2 inches in diameter, while a mature cluster spreads to fill a 6-12 inch area or wider over time.

Q: What happens if this plant gets too much water?
A: Robin will rot at the base or crown, so ensure the soil dries completely between waterings and use a pot with drainage.

Q: Can Robin survive a trip without a caretaker?
A: It can survive up to 10 days without water.

Q: How do you propagate this clustering succulent?
A: Robin spreads naturally by producing small offsets, or chicks, around the base of the mother rosette. Simply detach a chick once it has its own roots and pot it up or plant it directly in the garden.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
