  •   Sempervivum 'Ann Christy' is a hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, descended from Sempervivum species native to the rocky highlands of Europe and western Asia. These alpine plants evolved to grow in poor, well-drained soils and exposed mountain conditions, which is exactly why Ann Christy remains such a resilient grower today.

Ann Christy forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that shift from soft green at the base to burgundy-red at the tips. The upright clustering growth habit produces offsets, or "chicks," that spread outward to create a wide, textured mat of rosettes over time. The plump, layered leaves have a slightly waxy texture that helps the plant retain moisture efficiently.

Like all Sempervivums, Ann Christy blooms once per rosette, sending up a tall flower stalk in summer before that rosette completes its life cycle. The surrounding offsets continue to grow, so the plant never looks diminished after a rosette flowers. A night temperature drop can encourage blooming, making outdoor placement especially effective for triggering this seasonal display.

Ann Christy grows well in rock gardens, shallow troughs, and container arrangements where its clustering habit fills in naturally. It handles balcony wind and rain with ease, tolerates dry heated air indoors, and can move outside for summer to soak up the season. This succulent is non-toxic and completely safe around cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Sempervivum 'Ann Christy' grows well in bright indirect light but tolerates direct sun and lower light with regular rotation for even growth.

Water it every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Ann Christy does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix amended with perlite or coarse sand.

It tolerates a wide range from around 25°F up to 85°F and handles light frost without damage.

Ann Christy is a moderate grower that rarely needs fertilizer, but a light succulent feed once in spring supports healthy offsetting.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4-9, surviving outdoor winters down to around 30°F below zero. It grows outdoors year-round across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon. It also performs in Washington, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida with appropriate summer drainage and air circulation.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Ann Christy' safe to keep around cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is completely non-toxic and safe for all household pets.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Sempervivum 'Ann Christy' will develop root rot or soft, mushy leaves if the soil stays wet rather than drying completely between waterings.

Q: How fast does Ann Christy spread?
A: It produces offsets steadily to form a wide clustering mat over one to two seasons.

Q: Can it survive indoors in a dry home?
A: Ann Christy tolerates dry air beautifully, including the dry heated air common in winter homes, and needs no special humidity.

Q: How do I propagate Ann Christy?
A: Gently detach the offsets from the mother rosette and pot them in gritty, well-draining soil where they root quickly.

Q: Which window direction works best for indoor growth?
A: Ann Christy performs well in any bright window; east or south-facing glass gives the strongest color shift from green to red in the leaf tips.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
