  •   Sempervivum 'Adeltruid' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, descended from houseleek species native to the rocky alpine regions of Europe and western Asia. It evolved to survive harsh mountain terrain where drought, frost, and thin soils are the norm.

'Adeltruid' forms tight, compact rosette clusters with fleshy, pointed leaves that shift from green to burgundy-red as sun exposure increases. It spreads through a clustering growth habit, steadily producing small offset rosettes called "chicks" that fan outward from the parent plant, building into a low mound over time.

Each individual rosette flowers once, then yields to the surrounding offsets that continue the plant forward. Like all houseleeks, it needs a drop in nighttime temperature to trigger bloom, making outdoor or cool-season placement important for flowering to occur.

Plant it in rock gardens, alpine troughs, container groupings, and patio displays where it handles balcony wind and light rain without trouble. Individual rosettes typically reach 2 to 4 inches across, and the clustering habit spreads it into a low-growing mat over time.

  •   Sempervivum 'Adeltruid' grows well in full sun to partial sun, receiving at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every ten to fourteen days indoors.

'Adeltruid' does best in fast-draining mix such as cactus and succulent soil blended with coarse perlite or grit at a 1:1 ratio.

It handles temperatures from around 20°F and lower, performing well through hard frost and freezing winters.

'Adeltruid' is a slow to moderate grower that needs little to no fertilizer, doing well on lean soil just as it would in the wild.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, tolerating frost down to around 30°F at the colder end of that range. It grows outdoors across Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Arkansas. It does well in the warmer zones of Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Arizona as well.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Adeltruid' pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Sempervivum 'Adeltruid' develops root rot when soil stays wet. Let the soil dry out fully between waterings to keep roots healthy.

Q: Can 'Adeltruid' survive outdoors in freezing winter weather?
A: It handles frost down to around 30°F and thrives through hard freezes when planted in well-drained soil.

Q: How does it spread and multiply?
A: 'Adeltruid' naturally produces small offset rosettes called chicks around the base of the mother plant, which can be gently removed and replanted once they reach a few centimeters wide.

    Q: Can 'Adeltruid' grow indoors?
A: Indoors, it needs a south or east-facing window with strong direct light; outdoor placement with full sun and good air circulation produces stronger growth.

Q: How large does it get?
A: Individual rosettes typically reach 2 to 4 inches across, and the clustering habit spreads it into a low-growing mat over time.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
