  •   Peperomia 'Quito', also called radiator plant, is a compact rosette-forming houseplant in the Piperaceae family, native to the tropical regions of South America. It is a rare cultivar prized for its textured foliage and manageable size, well suited to indoor growing year-round.

The leaves are small, rounded, and deeply corrugated, with a surface texture that catches light across each ridge. Coloring runs from dark green to burgundy-bronze, deepening toward the edges and undersides. Quito forms a tight, low rosette that stays compact, typically reaching 6 to 8 inches in height and spread.

It produces slim, upright flower spikes typical of the peperomia genus, which emerge from the center of the rosette. These spikes are slender and pale, appearing in spring or summer, and carry no noticeable fragrance. Quito is also pet-friendly and purifies indoor air, filtering formaldehyde and other common household toxins.

Rotate it a quarter turn every week or two so all sides receive even light and the rosette stays symmetrical. It fits well inside a terrarium, and the moisture near a kitchen sink suits it without any extra effort. You can move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct airflow from either dries out the leaves.

  •   Peperomia 'Quito' grows well in bright indirect light, thriving under office fluorescent or LED fixtures too.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, letting the top inch of soil dry out completely between waterings.

Quito does best in a well-draining mix of perlite and peat or coco coir, one part perlite to two parts base mix.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and struggles below 50°F, so keep it away from cold drafts near windows.

Quito is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 35°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, Arizona, and Texas along the Gulf Coast. It also does well outside through summer months across much of the continental United States before returning indoors for winter.
  • Q: Is Peperomia 'Quito' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes. It is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Peperomia 'Quito' wilts slightly and the leaves feel softer when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil with your finger before watering.

Q: Can Quito survive in a terrarium?
A: Yes. The enclosed environment suits it well, and the ambient moisture around the glass helps keep the leaves hydrated.

Q: My plant is leaning to one side. What should I do?
A: Quito benefits from a quarter turn every week or two so each side gets equal light exposure and the rosette grows evenly.

Q: Can Quito go outside in summer?
A: Move it to a sheltered spot outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay consistently above 55°F. Avoid south-facing spots where the leaves can scorch in direct afternoon sun.

Q: How long can it go without watering if I travel?
A: Quito can go up to ten days without water, so a short trip away does not require any special preparation beyond a regular watering before you leave.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
