  •   Guzmania hybrid Yellow, a bromeliad in the family Bromeliaceae, originates from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree branches in warm, humid conditions. Cultivated hybrids like this one have been developed for indoor growing, keeping the bold look of the genus while adapting well to home and office environments.

Yellow forms a rosette of long, arching, forest green leaves that are smooth and glossy with a slightly waxy surface. At the center, a vivid yellow bract rises upward, dense and torch-shaped, contrasting against the dark foliage around it. The leaves are strap-like and can reach 12 to 18 inches in length, giving the plant a full, layered silhouette at mid-size.

The yellow bract is long-lasting, often holding its color for several months before fading, and small white flowers emerge from within the bract over the blooming period. Yellow is a confirmed air-purifying bromeliad, filtering formaldehyde and other indoor toxins from the surrounding air. It also releases oxygen at night, which sets it apart from most other common houseplants.

Move it outside for the summer months in a sheltered spot, but keep it covered from heavy rain, as standing water in the soil can cause root issues. Yellow thrives near kitchen moisture and does well in any room where humidity stays consistently high. It grows comfortably under standard office LED lighting.

  •   Guzmania hybrid Yellow grows well under bright indirect light and tolerates standard office LED fixtures without scorching.

Water it every ten to fourteen days, keeping the central cup lightly filled with fresh water and emptying it weekly.

Yellow does best in a coarse, well-draining bromeliad or orchid mix that allows air to reach the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from air conditioning or heating vents nearby.

Yellow is a slow to moderate grower and needs a diluted bromeliad-specific fertilizer applied once a month during the growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay above 35°F year-round. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, and southern California, along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, and in parts of Arizona and southern Nevada. It also grows outdoors in Puerto Rico and other warm US territories within those zones.
  • Q: Is Guzmania hybrid Yellow safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know if the plant needs more humidity?
A: Guzmania hybrid Yellow will show browning leaf tips when the air is too dry, especially near heating or cooling vents.

Q: Can Yellow scorch in a south-facing window?
A: Yes, direct sun through a south-facing window will bleach and scorch the leaves. Keep it a few feet back from the glass or use a sheer curtain.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Yellow produces offsets, called pups, at the base after the main plant flowers. Once a pup reaches about one-third the size of the mother plant, you can cut it free with a clean knife and pot it separately in a bromeliad mix.

Q: Why are Yellow's leaves turning yellow?
A: Overwatering is the most common cause, particularly when the potting mix stays waterlogged for extended periods. Check that the mix drains freely and that the central cup is not left stagnant for more than a week.

Q: Can this plant survive while I'm traveling?
A: Yellow can go up to ten days between waterings if the central cup is filled and the potting mix is lightly moist before you leave.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
