The leaves are glossy, slightly waxy, and broadly ovate with lightly serrated edges, growing in a dense mounding form that stays compact and low. Foliage is deep green, sometimes with a faint bronze cast, and the stems are fleshy and upright rather than trailing. 'Reiger' holds its leaves tightly together, giving the whole plant a full, rounded shape.
It blooms in shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, or white, with double or semi-double flowers that layer over the foliage in clusters. Blooms appear primarily in winter and early spring, making it a standout winter blooming houseplant during months when color indoors is scarce. A nighttime temperature drop, typically into the mid-50s°F, encourages bud set and keeps the bloom cycle going. The flowers have no notable fragrance.
'Reiger' does well near a kitchen window where ambient moisture from cooking and washing keeps humidity elevated around the plant. It is sensitive to being moved once settled, so choosing a stable spot from the start helps maintain steady growth. Sap from the stems and leaves can irritate skin and paws on contact, cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or chew on it, and it is best placed on a high shelf or out of reach of small children. It can move outside during summer in a sheltered spot, but needs cover from rain and protection from wind.

A: Begonia 'Reiger' wilts slightly when the soil has dried out enough to need a drink. Check the top inch of soil and water when it feels dry to the touch.

Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
