    •   Fern 'Green Flame' (Microsorum punctatum 'Green Flame') is a tropical fern in the Polypodiaceae family, native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. It grows naturally on forest floors and rocky outcrops in humid, shaded environments.

        The fronds are long, strap-shaped, and heavily ruffled along the edges, with a wavy, crinkled texture that runs the full length of each leaf. They emerge bright yellow-green and deepen to a darker green as they mature. Green Flame Fern grows in a low, spreading clump, with fronds arching outward from a central rhizome that creeps along the soil surface.

        Ferns in this genus do not produce flowers. Green Flame Fern reproduces through spores, which form in raised brown clusters called sori on the undersides of mature fronds. It is a pet-friendly plant and safe for cats and dogs. It also purifies indoor air and naturally humidifies the air around it.

        Place it near a kitchen or bathroom where ambient moisture stays consistently higher. Green Flame Fern is sensitive to being moved once settled, so pick a permanent spot before bringing it home. You can move it outside for summer, but place it somewhere sheltered and cover it from heavy rain. It is also sensitive to air from air conditioning vents and heaters, so keep it away from direct airflow. Under office LED lighting, it continues to grow steadily as long as the light runs for most of the day.
