  •   Echeveria Subalpina var. Perote is a rare blue rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the high-altitude regions of Mexico. It grows naturally in rocky, well-draining terrain shaped by cool nights and bright sun, making it a sought-after find for serious collectors.

Echeveria Perote forms a tight, upright rosette of thick, frosty blue-green leaves edged with soft pink to rosy tips that deepen in sun stress. The leaves carry a powdery, chalky coating called farina that gives it a silvery-blue glow, with leaf tips that taper to a gentle point. The rosette reaches two to four inches in diameter at maturity and has a sculptural, jewel-like appearance.

It typically needs a nighttime temperature drop to trigger blooming, so moving it to a cooler spot in late winter encourages flower spikes in spring. When it does bloom, warm coral to orange-pink bell-shaped flowers arch above the rosette on slender stalks. No significant fragrance has been noted.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to a patio or balcony in bright light, but bring it under cover when rain is expected since water pooling in the rosette invites rot. Echeveria Perote is pet friendly, so you can display it freely on shelves, coffee tables, or mixed succulent arrangements without concern.

  •   Echeveria Subalpina var. Perote grows well in bright indirect light to full direct sun, needing at least four to six hours of daily sun for best color.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in summer, letting the soil dry completely between waterings, then reduce to once every three to four weeks in winter.

Echeveria Perote grows well in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with thirty percent perlite or coarse grit to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 80°F and should be protected from frost below 32°F.

Echeveria Perote is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a diluted balanced succulent fertilizer applied once monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but performing best above freezing. It grows outdoors year-round across California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal Oregon. It also succeeds in New Mexico, coastal North Carolina, and parts of Arkansas and Tennessee with light frost protection during cold snaps.
  • Q: How often should I water Echeveria Subalpina var. Perote?
A: Every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, letting the soil dry completely between waterings. Cut back to once every three to four weeks in winter.

Q: Is it safe around pets?
A: Echeveria Subalpina var. Perote is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window direction works best for Echeveria Perote indoors?
A: A bright south or east-facing window with several hours of direct sun daily works well. Rotate the pot every week or two so the rosette grows evenly rather than leaning toward the light.

Q: How much space does it need to mature?
A: Echeveria Perote is compact and typically reaches two to four inches in diameter, making it suitable for 2-inch starter containers, small pots, and mixed succulent arrangements.

Q: Can Echeveria Perote be propagated?
A: It can be propagated from healthy leaf pulls or offsets that form at the base of a mature rosette. Allow cut ends to callous for a day or two before placing on dry, well-draining succulent mix.

    Q: Does it need fertilizer?
A: Diluted balanced succulent fertilizer applied once monthly during the active growing season keeps Echeveria Perote growing steadily. Skip feeding in winter.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
