  •   Echeveria setosa is a rosette-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Oaxaca and Puebla, Mexico. It grows naturally at high elevations where conditions are dry, rocky, and exposed to strong seasonal light.

The leaves are spoon-shaped, fleshy, and densely covered in fine white hairs that give the rosette a soft, fuzzy texture. Each leaf is green with a slightly pointed tip, and the hairs catch light evenly across the surface. The rosette grows in a compact, symmetrical form and stays low to the ground.

In late spring to early summer, it sends up a tall flower stalk carrying red and yellow tubular blooms. The flowers appear once a year and have no notable fragrance. Echeveria setosa is pet-friendly, so households with cats or dogs can keep it without concern.

Rotate it every few weeks so all sides of the rosette receive even light. You can move it outside for summer, but it needs cover from rain, as water pooling in the rosette or sitting on the hairy leaves can cause rot. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, though it handles the dry, heated indoor air that comes with winter months. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long.

  •   Echeveria setosa grows best in bright direct sun, at least four to six hours daily near a south- or east-facing window.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in spring and summer, reducing to once a month in winter when growth slows.

Echeveria setosa does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite at a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to frost or drops below 25°F.

Echeveria setosa is a slow-growing compact rosette; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F to 30°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can stay outdoors through autumn in zone 9b regions before temperatures push it back inside.
  • Q: How much sun does Echeveria setosa need indoors?
A: A south- or east-facing window works well. If the light is too low, the rosette stretches out and the leaves spread apart to reach the source. Rotating the pot every couple of weeks keeps the shape even.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria setosa gives a clear visual cue before it becomes urgent, with the leaves going slightly limp and losing their usual firmness. Check the soil first, and if it is bone dry an inch down, it is time to water.

Q: Can Echeveria setosa go outside in summer?
A: Yes, and it does well with the extra sun and airflow. Keep it under a porch roof or overhang so rainwater does not collect in the center of the rosette.

Q: Is this plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Echeveria setosa is non-toxic and listed as pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: Does Echeveria setosa bloom every year?
A: It typically blooms once a year in late spring to early summer. A noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures in late winter can help trigger the bloom cycle.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: Echeveria setosa stays compact, usually reaching three to five inches across at maturity. Growth is slow, so it stays a manageable size on a windowsill or shelf for years.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
