  •   Echeveria haagai 'Tolimanensis' is a compact rosette-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Mexico where it grows in rocky, well-drained terrain at higher elevations. It is collected for its distinctive powdery coating and tight upright growth habit.

'Tolimanensis' forms a dense rosette of thick, spoon-shaped leaves coated in a fine layer of powdery farina that gives the plant a blue-grey appearance. The leaf tips can develop subtle pinkish or lavender tones under stronger light. The farina coating is fragile, and direct handling leaves permanent fingerprints on the leaf surface.

Flower information for this cultivar is limited, but like many echeverias, it can produce bloom stalks when exposed to cooler nighttime temperatures during late winter or early spring. The rosette itself remains compact and upright year-round. This plant is pet-friendly.

Move it outside for summer in a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade, but keep it sheltered from rain to protect the farina and prevent root rot. It is sensitive to direct air from air conditioners and heaters, so position it away from vents. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Rotate it every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure.

  •   Echeveria haagai 'Tolimanensis' grows well in bright indirect light to partial direct sun, such as an east or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry completely between waterings.

'Tolimanensis' does best in a gritty cactus and succulent mix with added perlite for fast drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should be kept away from cold drafts below 40°F.

'Tolimanensis' is a slow grower; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer at half strength once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can remain outdoors through autumn in zone 9b regions before overnight temperatures drop too low.
  • Q: Is Echeveria haagai 'Tolimanensis' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How can I tell when it needs water?
A: Echeveria haagai 'Tolimanensis' wilts slightly and the leaves feel less firm when dry. Check the soil first; if the top inch or two is still damp, wait a few more days.

    Q: Can 'Tolimanensis' handle a south-facing window?
A: It can scorch in an unobstructed south window during peak summer hours. A sheer curtain or placement a few feet back from the glass reduces the risk.

Q: How fast does this succulent grow?
A: 'Tolimanensis' is a slow grower, producing one to a few new leaves per growing season under normal indoor conditions.

Q: Can 'Tolimanensis' be left alone during a vacation?
A: During the growing season, it remains stable without water for up to ten days. In winter dormancy, it can go three to four weeks between waterings.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: 'Tolimanensis' propagates well from individual leaves or offsets. Twist a healthy leaf cleanly from the stem, let the end callous over for a day or two, then lay it on dry succulent mix and wait for roots and a new rosette to form.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
