  •   Echeveria Elegans 'Blue', also called Mexican Snowball, is a compact rosette succulent from the Crassulaceae family native to the semi-arid regions of Mexico. It grows well in rocky, well-drained soils with plenty of sun and low rainfall, making it naturally suited to sunny windowsills and patios.

'Blue' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves in soft blue-gray to blue-green hues, often edged with pale margins. The leaves are coated in a powdery, matte substance called farina that gives the plant a frosted, almost silvery appearance. As it matures, 'Blue' offsets freely, sending smaller rosettes around the base to fill a 4-inch pot with a full clustering display.

Slender arching stems produce small bell-shaped blooms in coral-pink to yellow-orange, typically appearing in late winter to spring. A nighttime temperature drop during winter encourages this flowering cycle, so moving it to a cooler spot in the evening can prompt seasonal blooms. 'Blue' is also non-toxic to cats and dogs, so you can display it safely throughout your home.

Rotate the pot every week or two so all sides receive even light. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside for summer if desired, but cover it from heavy rain. Keep it away from direct AC or heater vents, as it tolerates dry indoor air without issue.

  •   Echeveria elegans 'Blue' grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though intense midday rays through south-facing glass can scorch its farina-coated leaves.

Water it deeply every 10 to 14 days in summer and reduce to once every 3 to 4 weeks in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

'Blue' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus and succulent potting soil blended with 30 to 50 percent perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop near freezing.

'Blue' is a slow to moderate grower needing only light balanced fertilizer once or twice during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit but performing best with frost-free winters. It grows year-round outdoors across much of California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and southern Nevada. It also grows along the mild Oregon and Washington coasts and in sheltered microclimates throughout New Mexico and coastal North Carolina.
  • Q: How often should I water Echeveria elegans 'Blue'?
A: Every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely before watering again. In winter, cut back to once every three to four weeks.

Q: Is it safe around cats and dogs?
A: Echeveria elegans 'Blue' is non-toxic and safe for pets. You can display it freely anywhere in your home without concern.

Q: How much light does 'Blue' need?
A: It grows well in bright indirect light or partial to full sun on a south- or east-facing windowsill. Avoid intense direct midday sun through glass, which can damage the frosted leaf coating.

Q: Can offsets be propagated easily?
A: 'Blue' offsets freely, and you can gently separate them from the base of the mother rosette. Let each offset callous for a day or two, then place it in dry succulent mix and water lightly after a week.

Q: How big does Mexican Snowball get?
A: Each rosette typically reaches about 3 to 4 inches across and clusters outward as it matures. A standard 4-inch pot is a perfect starting size for a single plant or small offset group.

Q: Can it grow under indoor LED lights?
A: Mexican Snowball grows well under bright office LED grow lights if natural light is limited. Position the light close enough to mimic the intensity of a sunny window.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
