  •   Echeveria 'Carino' is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family, descended from Echeveria species native to the semi-arid highlands of Mexico and Central America. Like its wild relatives, it evolved in rocky, well-draining soils with abundant sun and minimal rain, and adapts well to indoor and outdoor growing.

'Carino' forms a compact, symmetrical rosette of plump, spoon-shaped leaves in soft grey-green with a powdery farina coating that gives it a frosted appearance. The leaves have gently pointed tips and a smooth, sculpted structure. Over time, it slowly produces offsets around the base, building into a fuller display without intervention.

'Carino' can produce slender flower stalks when temperatures drop at night, triggering blooms in the warmer months. Placing it near a cooler window in late winter or moving it outside as spring temperatures warm provides the natural temperature shift needed for flower bud formation.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer in a bright spot with good airflow and shelter from rain to prevent waterlogged soil and leaf damage. It is non-toxic to cats and dogs. Pair it with other rosette succulents in dish gardens or terracotta arrangements for a cohesive display.

  •   Echeveria 'Carino' grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, with a few hours of morning direct sun daily.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in summer and reduce to once every 3 to 4 weeks in winter, always letting soil dry completely between waterings.

'Carino' grows well in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite at a 50/50 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

'Carino' is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from diluted balanced succulent fertilizer once a month in spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but needing frost protection below that. It grows outdoors year-round across California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada. It also does well in the mild coastal regions of Oregon and Washington, as well as parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and coastal North Carolina.
  • Q: How often should I water Echeveria 'Carino'?
A: Water when the soil dries out completely. In summer this may be every 10 to 14 days; in winter, reduce to once every 3 to 4 weeks. Overwatering causes root rot far more often than underwatering.

Q: Is this plant safe for homes with pets?
A: Echeveria 'Carino' is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: Can 'Carino' grow under office lighting?
A: It can survive under bright LED office lights but will stay more compact than it would with natural sunlight. A grow light positioned 6 to 12 inches above the rosette improves leaf color and prevents stretching.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: 'Carino' is most easily propagated by gently removing offsets that cluster around the base and potting them into fresh, well-draining soil. Leaf propagation is also possible but slower and less reliable.

Q: Does 'Carino' need a dormant period to bloom?
A: Flower buds form when nighttime temperatures drop consistently. Late winter placement near an unheated window or relocation outdoors in spring provides the temperature shift required for flowering.

Q: What window direction works best for this plant indoors?
A: 'Carino' thrives in south or west-facing windows that provide several hours of direct morning sun. East-facing windows also work well and prevent leaf scorch in climates with intense afternoon heat.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
