  •   Echeveria 'California Queen' is a hybrid succulent in the Crassulaceae family, bred from Echeveria parentage and grown for its blue-green rosette form and farina-coated leaves. It is considered a rare find among succulent collectors and enthusiasts.

The leaves are broad, spoon-shaped, and densely packed into a symmetrical rosette that can reach several inches across. Each leaf is coated in a powdery farina that gives the foliage a soft blue-green tone, with pink-tipped edges that deepen with more sun exposure. The surface has a smooth, waxy texture beneath the farina, and the rosette holds a tight, layered form as it matures.

'California Queen' produces tall, arching bloom stalks with coral to orange bell-shaped flowers during late spring to summer. The blooms appear once the plant has experienced a nighttime temperature drop, which triggers the flowering cycle. It does not produce a noticeable fragrance.

Rotate 'California Queen' every week or two so all sides of the rosette receive even light and the shape stays symmetrical. It tolerates dry heated indoor air without dropping leaves, though it should be kept away from direct airflow from air conditioners or heaters. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered spot, and cover it or bring it in when rain is expected, since sitting water on the leaves can damage the farina. This plant is pet friendly.

  •   Echeveria 'California Queen' grows best in bright indirect to direct light, ideally near an east or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

'California Queen' does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with perlite for extra drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to prolonged temperatures below 40°F.

'California Queen' is a slow-growing succulent; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted low-nitrogen liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can stay outdoors through autumn in zone 9b areas before overnight temperatures drop below its threshold.
  • Q: How much light does Echeveria 'California Queen' need indoors?
A: A south or east-facing window works well. In a south-facing window, place it a foot or two back from the glass during the hottest months, as the leaves can scorch with prolonged intense midday sun.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria 'California Queen' will show slightly soft or puckered leaves when the soil has been dry long enough that it needs a drink. The leaves firm back up within a day or two after watering.

Q: Can 'California Queen' survive a week or more without water?
A: Yes, you can leave it up to ten days without water without any issue, and in cooler months it can go even longer between waterings.

Q: Is this plant safe around cats and dogs?
A: 'California Queen' is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: Does 'California Queen' need to go outside to bloom?
A: It does not have to go outside, but it needs a drop in nighttime temperatures to trigger blooming. Moving it outdoors in summer or placing it near a cooler window at night helps initiate the flower stalks.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: 'California Queen' typically reaches 4 to 6 inches in diameter at maturity, staying compact enough for a windowsill or container arrangement.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
