  •   Echeveria 'Brown Rose' is a compact rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, bred as a hybrid cultivar with roots in the diverse Echeveria genus native to semi-arid regions of Mexico and Central America. This rare echeveria brown rose cultivar has become a sought-after find among succulent collectors for its unusual leaf tones.

The rosette grows in tightly layered, spoon-shaped leaves that shift from dusty olive-green at the base toward deep brownish-burgundy and rose-tinted edges under higher light. Leaf surfaces carry a soft powdery farina that gives the whole rosette a muted, matte finish. The compact rosette stays low and symmetrical, typically reaching a few inches across, and offsets slowly over time to form small clusters.

'Brown Rose' produces slender arching stems in late spring to summer, tipped with small bell-shaped flowers in coral to orange-pink tones. A night temperature drop in autumn encourages the next bloom cycle. You can move it outdoors in autumn to take advantage of cooler nights and natural temperature swings.

Rotate 'Brown Rose' a quarter turn every week or two so all sides receive equal light and the rosette stays evenly shaped. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct airflow from either can dry the leaves unevenly. This plant is pet friendly. It is rare enough that it turns up infrequently in general garden centers, so it carries real appeal as a collector piece and works well in succulent arrangements alongside other compact rosette succulents.

  •   Echeveria 'Brown Rose' does best in bright indirect light or a few hours of direct morning sun daily. It can scorch under intense south-facing afternoon sun. It also grows under bright office LED setups if placed close to the fixture.

Water it every 10-14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings. It needs far less in winter, roughly once a month.

'Brown Rose' does best in a fast-draining mix of cactus soil blended with coarse perlite or pumice at roughly 50/50. Good drainage prevents root rot far more than watering frequency does.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and tolerates dry heated air without leaf drop. It needs a cooler night temperature, around 50°F-55°F, to trigger blooming.

'Brown Rose' is a slow-growing cultivar that adds only a few new leaves per growing season. Feed it with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength once a month in spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b-11b, where outdoor temperatures stay above around 25°F-30°F in winter. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It can stay outside through autumn in cooler zones before being brought in ahead of frost.
  • Q: How much light does Echeveria 'Brown Rose' need?
A: East or west-facing windows work well, giving a few hours of direct sun without the intensity of a south-facing afternoon exposure. A south window can scorch the farina-coated leaves, so pull it back a foot or two if that is your only option.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria 'Brown Rose' wilts slightly and the lower leaves may feel thinner or softer when the soil has been dry long enough. That is the clearest signal to water rather than going by a fixed schedule alone.

Q: Is 'Brown Rose' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly. It is safe to keep in homes with cats and dogs.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: 'Brown Rose' propagates well from leaf cuttings or offsets. Gently twist a healthy lower leaf free, let the cut end callous for a day or two, then lay it on dry cactus mix. Offsets can be separated and potted once they have a few roots of their own.

Q: Can 'Brown Rose' survive while I travel?
A: You can leave it unwatered for up to ten days without any harm as long as the soil was dry before you left.

Q: What makes this succulent hard to find?
A: 'Brown Rose' is a rare cultivar that does not appear in most garden centers or general nurseries. It circulates mainly through specialty succulent growers and collector trades, which limits availability compared to more common echeveria varieties.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
